Who We Are
Who We Are
Okay, here's the deal. There is no huge company behind Arthritis Insight. No
CEO, no secretary, no janitor. It's just us, Tina and Kim, two housewives in
Ohio who are running AI while cooking dinner, doing laundry and helping with
homework.
Sit back, relax and I'll tell you a little
story about how it all came about.
One sad August day I found out that I had
rheumatoid arthritis. I was young, I had small children to raise! How could
this happen to me? I first turned towards my local Arthritis Foundation for
help. I needed to learn everything I could about the disease and I wanted to
get in touch with others my age who were dealing with it.
Unfortunately, my local AF wasn't much
help. There were no evening groups I could join and I couldn't go during the
day, I was working. I wasn't able to find the support and info I craved so I
turned to the internet. WOW! I found a gajillion websites about arthritis. I
learned so much, I had NO idea Emu's had arthritis curing oil!
Once I weeded through the quack sites and
quick cures I found a good group of websites that I could turn to when I
needed to, but I still didn't find what I really needed. I wanted it all in
once place. Easy to read, accurate information and areas where I could find
others for support. Hmmm, I thought, maybe I can create one myself!
Off to the library I went and came home
with HTML for Dummies. Taught myself how to write a webpage and created the
ugliest website you ever did see! My good friend Kimmy McCarthy said,
"PLEASE let me make you some graphics for that site. It's sooo
ugly!" And then my website was useful and pretty too! Soon Kimmy became
much more than the designer! She became my right hand and became involved in
all aspects of the site.
That was 8 years ago. The site name has
changed thru the years, and the people involved have changed but some things
remain the same. It is still the best place on the web to find arthritis
information and support. And it's still run by a gimp and her friend from
their kitchens in Ohio.
