Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Dedicated to David L. Gillie
Forgiveness... like ever rising incense
you carry the confused heart
more completely, more tenderly, than
the first memories of love
once carried by your bearer; still held by the forgiven,
your presence, is more vivid and promising than
the scent of newly risen bread
to one faint with hunger.
Forgiveness...like the sun you draw
the once proud sunflower back to its source -
faithful again in its gaze, steadfast, renewed,
rooted in love;
refreshed by the scent and sense of evening rain.
Forgiveness... you freely reconcile with
touch, kiss, smile, handshake,
prayer and memory that which was once chasm;
dread burns away like morning mist
as you replace sadness with healing, with the fragile
wonder and wave of a child's hand.
