Other Stuff: I was diagnosed with RA just shy of one year after graduating college. I have been living with RA over 4 years now, and finally taking back my life. It took me about 3 years to stop apologizing to the people around me for my disease, and to start taking care of myself. A year ago I left my job on Wall Street intending to return after I got my health back in order. Well, a year went by and my health is still unpredictable, but now I accept that. With that acceptance, I found a strength I never could have known had it not been for this disease. I have just completed the EMT training course, passed the national certification exam, and registered for classes at a local college.

Living with Arthritis I thought I was cheated. Instead, I found new direction, purpose, and sense or self. My disease no longer tarnishes who I am. My illness is secondary to the person I present to the world. I am applying to medical school next year, with the hopes that I can graduate.....but If I fall short, it is ok. To make it into school will be my greatest victory, once I am enrolled, I plan to make my story heard so that the doctors of tomorrow have a sense of what it is like for a patient to be at their mercy.
