My story is a sad story, my niece was 24 years of age & went on holiday from Scotland to spain with her mother ( SHE WAS AN ONLY CHILD) a good looking girl in a lot of pain but she held a good job in an I.T department drove a car did all the normal things young girlsdo. She was feeling unwell the day before her holiday and her mother as a precaution went with her to the local outpatients, which was the the hospital that she also attended for her intense treatment for her rheumatoid athritis, the doctor did not do a blood test nor did he give her an x ray even although her mother voiced her concerns. As soon as the they arrived in Spain she was taken unwell , admitted to a Spanish Hospital her mother tried to explain her illness, they immediately took her off her steroid medication that she had been on for the last three years, Her mother voiced her concern once again and then telephoned the hospital in Scotland, the consultant who dealt with Nicola since she was 14 years of age spoke to the Spanish doctors & also faxed them with her medication they informed my sister that they did not agree with someone so young on steriods, and they also said she was on the steriods far to long. Within days her immune system collapsed and she went from sitting up in bed to fighting for her life and was placed on a ventilator, her mother & my older sister who travelled to spain to be with my younger sister were horrified at the way her body was abused, they were never allowed to stay with my neice other than visiting hours, they were told the night before she died they would not allow my sister to stay with her daughter even though they had told her she would not last the night. They phoned my sister early hours of the morning to advise her her daughter had died, They had switched off her ventilator without her permission. The reason I am writing this story is we do not want this to happen to anyone else, My sister is traumatised, she wants answers, she has contacted everyone from the procurator fiscal in Scotland who performed a private Post mortem, To the consultant who checked her out before her holiday, Questions were why was she allowed to fly, was she on the steroids to long why did she not have a steroid card, no one has come back to give my sister any answers she even has telephoned the M.P for the human rights, can you believe they have not got back to her. She does not want anything but Answers,5 months later my sister has not had a nights sleep she is kept going with medication, her daughters sympathy cards still remain on the shelves in her lounge. Please to save my sisters sanity is there anyone out there can advise me how to get my sister the answer she is seeking.
