RA about 1.5 years ago. Since that time I have been on several medications.
The disease seems to be in pretty good control now. In addition, I have
had problems with my back (herniated disk) for which I am about to have the second surgery. Many things have changed in my life since RA entered my life. I am an administrative assistant in a mental health facility. This involves typing, filing, writing, etc. I have had to shorten my work days
at times as well as change my job description to some degree. I am fortunate to have a very understanding boss with whom I have worked with for about ten years. At home, my son is in his first year of college. I am not married but do have a significant other in my life.
My family is probably less understanding of this illness than anyone I know at this point. It is very hard to help them understand the quioxotic
onset of RA. Some days are great and others are just the pits. My son, who
believes I can do anything, is having to look at that very differently. Of course, I too am discovering what a fine young man he is instead of the little boy he has been.
The life saver for me has been this chat site and the overall information
available. I began my internet search with your original site and have
traveled along to this one. I am able to count my blessings so many times
after talking with this group. I now believe I can continue and grow in the years to come. My original thought was that life was over and I would be
crippled and unable to function in no time. Thank goodness that hasn't happened as suddenly or finally as I had thought it would.
Days are filled now with challenges and joys instead of depression and pain only. As a group, we are powerful and I appreciate the "connection".
