We asked: Do you have pets? If so, what kind and what are their names? If not, why? Tell us!
And you said:
I
do have a very special pet....I rescued her from our local animal
shelter...and she is 26kilos of staffordshire bull terrier who goes by the
name of Suey...she actually owns me more than I own her....she is absolutely
wonderful with people and children so I never have a problem taking her
anywhere....she is a big soft sook.
When I am feeling a bit on the gloomy side suey is there to lick me or
cuddle me and she just brightens up my day......I honestly wouldn't and
couldn't be without her..
I recon everyone should have a pet of some kind or other.....-Leah

I have an
all black female long-haired cat I named Lucky. She showed up on my
doorstep one day with her hair all matted and tangled and underweight. I
found out someone in the neighborhood had moved and left 3 cats. I am
sorry, but I don't know what happened to the other 2. Well, I started
feeding her and that was that. Took her to the vet and they shaved her
mats off and gave her a clean bill of health and her shots. I come home
from work and she is waiting. She can't wait until I put her blankie on my
lap and comes up and takes a nap while I rest. My rhuematologist told me
we could all learn a great deal from a cat. I have RA and Sjogren's
Syndrome. -Barb
My pet's name is Bubba. He is 27 grams of
lean, green, chirping machine. The kids have long gone and we live way out in the country, we'd be
alone if it weren't for the pets. (kids we sometimes call them- we even
slip up sometimes and use the children's names to call them). We have
Samuel who's now 6, he's a black Lab x Irish wolf hound, looks like a
Labrador with a beard and the softest nature I've ever come across in a
dog. You can give him a treat without touching his lips, his off-sider is
5y/o Molly, she's a ginger cat who came to us as a feral when she was
about 5 weeks old and full of fleas and worms, she was not well for her
first two years but now is real well and healthy, lots of long fur and
beautiful. We finally found out she needed HRT, so has a pill once a week,
and now there's no more hunting. These two often spend time curled up
together on the lounge chair.
Bubba is a Pacific Parrotlet, one of the smallest species of parrots in
the world. He was hatched and raised in Tennessee, so I thought Bubba
would be a good name for him. :)
Those of you who check the pet pages regularly like me, know that I used
to have a Parrotlet named Tiki. Tiki was a rescue, and in very ill health
when I took her in. I managed to nurse her back to health with some great
help from my avian vet, but she passed away at the age of 8. A parrotlet's
normal life span is 30.
I could hardly bear to think of "replacing" Tiki, but my entire
family pretty much badgered me into it. Thank God for family. Bubba
hatched on 7/31/02. I took him home when he was 5 weeks old. He is a total
riot. Because he's healthy, I had to learn all kinds of tricks to keep him
safe in my home and to keep me sane! :) :) :)
He loves it when I sing to him - even though the Sjogrens has pretty much
put the lid on that activity, he appreciates my croaky voice, and
especially likes the song "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story.
He also likes Pink and Avril Levigne. He's a well rounded music
aficionado.
When he's sleepy he crawls up right against my neck and talks to me. This
started out as gibberish, but he can now say Watcha Doin and make a
special noise I used when I rode Tennessee Walking horses. He's trying for
Mama loves you, but I don't think there are enough hard consonants in that
phrase for him.
He's still not potty trained (Tiki was potty trained by the time she was 3
months old), but he's making an effort and, meanwhile, special cautions,
mainly involving old sweats and lots of paper towels are in effect.
When I cry he gets as close to my cheeks as he can and attempts to rub
them dry with his head.
When I'm on the phone too long, he pushes the "end" button. LOL!
All my male friends with beards are terrified 'cause he loves to pull out
beard hairs one by one. My female friends and I are trying to teach him to
do eyebrows, and the men have gained a much greater appreciation of
waxing.
I can't imagine being without him, even though he refuses to chip in on
the mortgage.
