I remember one day when I was a kid... I was sitting on my bed and then I decided to sit indian style. Well... while getting into the indian style position, my right hip popped out of socket and hurt like a mofo. I mean I was crying and when I moved to get out of that position a loud pop and it felt like the bone went back into my socket.

I have tried throughout school to sit indian style, but my right hip always had that feeling of like it was about to pop out, and a couple of times it did, but not as bad as the first time.

I soon stopped trying to sit indian style after about 4th grade. I mean when I was a kid the teachers always told us to sit indian style.

Indian style is out for me also.....has been for years. It hurts my ankles more than my hips, but it's out for me too.Yeah, haven't been able to do that in a long time! I used to sit Indian style all the time, even hidden away in my chair under my desk at work, where no one could see!  My hips were always so super flexible, I could actually turn my legs almost completely around backwards when standing.  My kids used to have me do it to freak out their friends, LOL!  Now I can't even put my right ankle onto my left knee - I can't raise it more than 3 inches off the ground!  When it went, it went fast!  I often wonder how I didn't notice that this was happening - and if I could have done some stretching or something to prevent it!!  No matter what, it's gone now.im a gymnast with JRA lol I always sit either indian style or with my left leg tucked up and under crossed. for me its ussually most uncomfortable just sitting normal. who knows, i mean i change positions a lot cause i get so stiff, but im very flexible. i did PT for my hips cause one had limited movement, but since at the time i was a gymnast my flexibilty was off the charts.......it was just bad for me and in comparison to my other hip...at 53 I can still sit Indian style. But I can't get off the floor without some kind of furniture to crawl up on  , so I do it on the couch. My knee won't bend enough for me to sit Indian Style lol.  Huh?  If I could do that I wouldn't be getting my knees replaced.  Haven't been able to do that in years.  I wish I could.

Joonie when I saw this topic "Indian Style" I just knew you had found us a new "position" to try outIsn't the PC term "Criss Cross Applesauce" now

yeah.... it just happened that way, and did not realize it until after I posted it. But I was thinking about this last night while trying to go to sleep. And it just so happens that is when the other post I made was being thunk about as well....

I think there is a connection there somewhereJoonie, now I am confused.  The public schools won't allow teachers to say sit "Indian Style" any more, it is "criss cross applesauce".  I love Political Correctness2

OK Mary don't be goin' all technical and smart on us just cause you're a teacher

Criss cross applesauce hands in your lap...

least thats what they taught kelsay lol

Trust me it was all sarcasm, but really teachers here in Washington don't use the term "Indian style"  due to PC. I feel sorry for our teachers here.  I teach college so I usually say what is on my mind
