Debate: Movies | Arthritis Information

Ok so while I was trying to go to sleep last night, I did not take Ami was too late to take it.

I figured we should debate if the movies from the 80's&90's are better than the movies we have now.

For me I would say the 80's-90's. I know CGI has come a long way, since then, but so has the language, vulgarity, and just a waste of 2 hours. The movies now, seem to let me down. I mean I get sooo hyped up about the movie and then when I see it, it is nothing like I thought it was going to be.

Yeah... 80's-90's movies ROCK!!

Whatever happened to the movies like Indian Jones, 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Big Trouble in Little China, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (with real people!), Cobra, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Camp Sleep away......Okay, like which movies are you talking about? And really I can't remember a lot of the 80's anyway LOL.

We never go to movies now. Ever. Taking the whole family? $$$$ Hiring a babysitter? $$$$$ So we rent after everyone has seen it and we've read what everyone says about it.

I only want to see light fluffy comedies or weird humor that takes a few times to get, like Napoleon Dynamite. I have enough to be sad and scared about!

The last movie outside those categories that I enjoyed was "The Pursuit of Happyness", which was great even though it was sad.I'm with you joonie. It seems that there are a lot of horror flicks now that
don't seem to make any sense. Dark water, the Ring, Cabin Fever, Texas
chainsaw movies, hills have eyes. And lets not even start on the saw series.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good horror flick but some of these have gone
way overboard and anyone who can sit and think about the content that was
in the saw movies, is fairly disturbed. Okay, you posted what you were talking about while I was typing. Only saw the John Hughs ones, and yes, they were great - light and fluffy, hmmmm....

I'm a sci fi fanatic so love anything to do with space..... all the star trek movies as opposed to the star wars. I cant think of anything in the 80's... lived abroad and they didnt have TV let alone movies in english! Love Serenity and war of the worlds.... oh dont get me started.

Just watched Dr Zhivago recently, just fantastic, they dont make them like that any more

Most of the movies I love are from the 80's & 90's. Weird Science, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, Mircle Beach, Splash, Verbs, just about anything with Tom Hanks in it from the 80's & 90's and even some now.

I sit and watch some of these movies with hubby when he net flix them, and I just either fall asleep or wished I had not wasted 2 hours watching the movie. Some, just leave me feeling like I missed something, or did not understand it and it results in me asking a lot of questions about the movie and then I just realize there was not really a point to the movie.

Oh I like Men In Black, You've Got Mail, and Independence Day.

I watched a movie with hubby saturday night, it was PathFinder, that movie just sucked, and hubby said it was a good movie and he actually liked it. I was like I like blood and gore, but that movie sucked!

Its the edinburgh festival at the moment and me and hubby have been to see a lot of up and coming artists hoping to make their big break and get on TV.

Anyway we went to see one called 'Faith Brown and the boys in the Buff'. Oh my god it was amazing... 4 buff boys in the altogether dancing and singing, big ones, little ones, short ones, fat ones

I rarely watch a movie but I love a good suspence/scary like Gothika w/Hale Berry, Nicole Kidman in The Others. I like romanatic comedy like How to Lose A Guy In Ten days w/Matthew McCaugnahy(sp) *drool*, Fifty First Dates w/Drew Barrymoore, and my all time favorites Lord of the Ring Series. Cold Mountain was good too.

BTW has anyone seen Wild Hogs w/John Travolta? It's out on dvd this weekend? How was it?

On Last Comic Standing, they made a joke about how bad it was. It looked like it would be okay to me, but I haven't heard anybody say anything about it except to make that joke.

Oh forgot 80s and 90s movies I love were Stand By me, The Lost Boys, Breakfast Club, Guarding Tess, Steele Magnolias, Top Gun, The Goonies, Willow and Princess Bride

I am in the process of getting hubby to NetFlix Wild Hogs for me, but he has yet to do it.

Sounds like a good one, Sarah.

Shannon I keep telling him he has no taste in movies, but he keeps insisting it is me.

MoNana? Did you know Matthew McCaughnahy does not wear underarm deodorant? He sweats like a pig and stinks, but I guess his cuteness makes up for being smelly.

I Don't Care! I'll never be close enough to smell him anywayFatal Attraction, Field of Dreams, Working Girl.

I'm getting scared at how hard it is to remember back that far...I'll have to watch some VH1 "I Love the 80's/90's" for a refresher course.Ohhhh 80s movies totally rocked! Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Indiana Jones, the Goonies, not to mention Jaws which was 70s, but a part of my 80s childhood due to re reuns on telly every Christmas!

Though I could be looking back through rose tinted nostalgic glasses, as I was only just becoming a teenager when the 90s hit.

As for being better than modern films, well, there are good films out there so its a tough call. I adored Moulin Rouge, also Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was great. I quite liked the English Patient (mmmmmm Ralph Fiennes)...was that 90s though? **Trying to think of more recent films I've loved....**

Pulp Fiction, Raising Arizona, Terms of Endearment, Top Gun, Officer and a Gentleman.....faves!

Matthew M...ewwww.

My 14 y/o son and I both loved Wild Hogs.  We watched it in the theater.  We just rented it today to watch again with hubby.

PJ

Hey there are some good newer movies out there, you just have to know where to find them!

Little Miss Sunshine, Smokin' Aces, 40 Year Old Virgin there are more, but I'm at work and everyone is distracting me from not doing my job....hahahahahaha

I think Hot Rod and Superbad are going to be AMAZING. I also can't wait for Fan Boys.

Little Miss SUnshine!!  That was SOOO funny when she did her dance!  I'm cracking up just thinking about it!

Yeah, hubby does not like that I have a thing for Ryan Reynolds, but how can you not, just look at the guy! He is to me what Brad Pitt is to everyone else on this board.

Ok that reminds me I love the Blade movies.

28 Weeks Later was an *awesome* movie, by the way. I'm obsessed with those films.

I cannot *WAIT* until resident evil 3 comes out. You know that it has many ties to alice in wonderland? oh yeah, that's half my attraction. That and my zombie obsession!

Has anyone seen the movie Dark City? It's kinda old, but it has Keifer Sutherland and Jennifer Connoley(sp) Really a good movie, it just came out ahead of it's time.

Most of my movie collection is of movies from the 80's & 90's. Now hubbys movie collection is mostly of the newer movies. He just has weird taste in movies. Like Highlander... he LOVES that movie and only because they cut folks heads off. I am telling you... my hubby needs to see an psyhco therapist, fo' sho'.

Oh and katie where do you think I got the Fo' Sho' from? The 40 year-old Virgin. I usually just watch science and history documentaries.

Have you seen the made for TV movie Totally Awesome????

Tracy Morgan's character is *amazing* it's hysterical!

Never seen it.  To be honest, Hollywood these days makes me nauseous; I don't really like giving them money.  I know, I know - I'm getting old and crochety. Yeah you are. LOL
Yeah you are. LOL
And don't you forget it, missy!

That is what Im talkin' 'bout! I like the good old movies, where everything was just cool! Now it is just Blah!

I remember to get to watch movies like that are on regular tv now & days, you had to have HBO, SkinaMAX, or some other paid channel. And now, sadly it is everywhere.

Hahaha SkinaMAX. I love how everyone calls it that!!!! You know, HBO can get pretty raunchy at night too.Oh PowerLine off a Goofy Movie was the bomb! We have both songs and listen to them in the car. Yep, we have over 100 Disney Movies. But we stopped collecting when they went DVD. All of ours are on VHS. One day, those will be worth some big bucks Joonie. Just make sure they're in good shape!!!

I know, but HBO when we had it FREE for 3 months was playing old 80's-90's movies. And I just loved it! I even got to see Big Trouble in Little China!! I was sooo HAPPY and stayed up until 5am to watch all of it! I asked hubby to NetFlix it for me for months and he kept "forgetting".

Oh and License to Drive! Good Movie!!! And it has both Coreys in it Yahooo!!

Oh yeah they only play the REALLY good stuff when they have the free offers. The rest of the time it's the same crap over and over. Don't feel left out! lolNope they are not in good shape, well at least the cases are not. But some of the movies are worn out from daughter watching them sooo many times. And son he does not really care for tv that much. He cannot sit still long enough to get into a movie. So, they are all packed in boxes and sitting in our foyer behind the front door.

Bummer!!! Hasn't anyone told you how much more valuble things are MIP?

I am such a nerd.

Look we were buying them for our daughter, to keep her entertained. We do have some she has only watched once or twice.

yes, I know all about the MIB or MIP! Hubby is obsessed with collecting things. I am the only one who does not have a collection in the house, even our 2 year old has a train collection and disney cars, and no he does not have sarge to play with it is hanging on his wall, with all the other cars characters we have bought him.

LOL I was gonna say!! But Sarge is POISONUS!!!!
