I read this AP story in the paper today. Just another hit for all of us in chronic pain. As usual, the sins of a few will ruin it for those who need help with pain.
I fought long and hard to not take pain pills. But it was getting to difficult to work, sleep or do anything at all. Sometimes I am able to go a week or two without them. Sometimes not. There are times when I feel like guilty even asking for them. I have a great GP who always asks me what my supply is like. She makes sure I am actually taking them when I need them. But I have worked in hospitals for many years and I know that many people in chronic pain are made to feel they are criminals for even asking.
It is a very interesting article, there will always be people who abuse painkillers, there is no and, ifs, or buts about it. Just because many of us many need to have painkillers everyday to help get through the day does not make you an abuser. As my dr has said each case is different and there is a very fine line between drug therapy and drug abuse. I can tell you there are many drs out there that wll speak up if they feel you are abusing the drugs. meme
