EBV test and other blood work | Arthritis Information

Well, the last time I went to my GP, I had a EBV test done. And they called me today, sunday, to tell me all my blood work I had done was high, and my plateletes are still high. And to make sure, I keep my September 18th appointment.

Great just great! See, that is another reason I do not like to get my blood drawn other than the jabbing of the needle in the arm. They always find something wrong with ya.

UGH!! I guess I should add this to my "List-o-Complaints" for my new RD, I get to see Tuesday.

It would not surprise me, if I had it. As my daddy died from cancer, and I got my JRA from him. It will just be a bummer, tis all.

Oh well... I am not going to worry to much about it. Could just be caused by inflammation. But I doubt it.

Someone put that into "stooopid people" terms for me, please.

Joonie - An elevated platelet count can be common whn a person tests positive for EBV. I've not heard about the cancer connection though.

do any of them mean more than likely I have cancer, or RA is making my test positive because it is like that with RA and EBV tests?

Oh Ok... I guess I am done worrying about it Well, that is not what the doctor told me when she said she was sending me off for the EVB test. She said to check to see if I have mono, and that she was more than sure it would come back normal. But just to rule stuff out.Joonie, whenever I have something that's not right, my Doc always sends me for the "big gun" tests.  Always!!   Not because he thinks that what I might have, but as your Dr. says, to rule things out!!

So hold that thought, and try to keep your head straight!!  And not to stress about it.

Yeah, but my test for the virus came back positive... so would that mean I would not get to take my Humira?

I am really starting to hurt again from not being on the Humira. I am just freaking out again. Because I do not want to revert back to how I was before Humira. And all I am on is 5mg of pred. Which does not cut it like the Humira does. But it makes the swelling go down for about half the day.

I still have pain in my back where my kidneys are suppose to be, and on both sides. My bladder/utherus still mysteriously has pain and my ovary was hurting me soo bad for 2 days straight that I thought about going to the ER because of the pain, but I did not as we do not have money to pay for the bill. I am already a money assassin, when it comes to medical bills. My hubby works to keep me healthy and here I am sick still and no closer to being well.

Aw Joonie - you sure don't have things easy do ya?  You certainly seem to have more than your fair share!

Can't really answer you're questions though, as I'm not familiar with drugs other than the Pred, MTX and Placquenil.

Just hang in there girlie, and rest up as much as you can AND DON'T FORGET the appts!!

Joonie I am so sorry!!!!  Did you see the doctor yet?  When are you going?  I cannot believe they would call you on a Sunday and leave you hanging like this

Connie

Thanks guys! I do not know either. I guess they are leaving it up to my RD to decide what to do. They might be faxing it to my new RD since they refered me to her. And I know they have her fax, I watched them write it down while I was there.

Who knows? Not I.

Joonie, the test you had done is to check for a certain virus and it's a common test for Mono and other forms that this virus takes.  It does show up in some rare cancers but remember it's very rare.  Also, test is used in people who are on immuno suppresant meds, because of the severity of mono or one of the viruses in people who take immuno suppresant meds.  Don't worry too much.  You may have mono or it could be part of the infection that you have going on.

Make sure you make a list of questions to take to your new RD and take the list out of your purse and give it to the RD.  Please be more proactive in your care, we all worry about you.  Speak up biscuit and make that doctor answer your questions.  Lindy

I do not carry a purse. I carry a diaper bag, but son is not going with us. SO, I will have hubby's cargo pants for storage.

After my neck/back/shoulders get to feeling a little better, I took my  Robaxin to help with the stiffness I have from hubby making me jump and jerk my back when he tried to decapatate me with the DVD he threw into the dinning room and hit the wal infront of me and scared the crap outta me. (shew) *takes a deep breath* That was a long sentance!

Anyways... thanks for the info. I hope it is just from RA. And nothing more. I will try to write something out tonight.

Oh and I forgot I have to find someone to watch my kids Tuesday. I suck, I forgot. WHATEVA!!

I have to get my blood tested every 3 months, for my hemotologist. He was absolutely SURE I had a very low grade lymphoma. But after many, many tests, including a biopsy of an area between my adrenal gland and pancreas, they determined that it was an adrenal adenoma,(non-malignant), NOT lymphoma. I think I've posted that before, but I just wanted to let you know that there are many things other that cancer that can cause positive bloodwork.

Just trying to help you not worry too much

You know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Nini

PS Try planning your revenge for the near-decapitation. That one deserves revenge.

Hey Biscuit, You're gonna be ok!! I know you are

I love your new nick name biscuit, soft, round and fluffy! Perfect

Just go tho that site and under "lab tests" scroll down to  EVB ANTIBODIES.  That will tell you all about it.

Thanks guys! I am feeling a bit better about it. I have threw that thought into a trunk and locked it and have put it to the very back of my brain. Maybe it will disengrad soon.YEAH! Glad you're feeling better, and glad you locked those nasty thoughts away!I told MIL about what the dr said, and she is going to take me to the Dr's office tomorrow to get a copy of my blood work for to take to my new RD Tuesday. In hopes things can get resolved after seeing my new RD. I am not sure if MIL meant she was taking me or if I should get hubby to take me after he got off work. I was confussed on that part, but either way I will try to get a copy of my labs to take to my RD tomorrow.Yes, definitely get a copy of your labs. And while you're there, see if you can talk to the doctor for a few minutes. Just to get his take on the results. Might ease your mind a little until Thursday.Actually I have yet to see the REAL Dr. I see his partner who helps out when he gets over runned with patients. I like her better, than I would probably seeing him. But he is the one who looks over my file and decides what. But he is always busy with other patients and doing duty at the hospital. Hi Joonie!

I read those links you posted and it seems that Epstein-Barr Virus or EBV antibodies many times show up in people with RA. And scientists think that there is some connection to EBV setting off RA. Nothing to worry about with cancer. I don't know if the blood test you had is testing for antibodies or what, but antibodies do NOT mean an active infection. It means you had the infection and the antibodies never go away after you've had it.

Please don't worry about cancer. Don't worry, be happy, la lalala la lalalalalala don't worry, be happy

They done a EBV panel on me, but a different type of EBV panel then what was on the blood request form where they can just put a check next to it, she had to write it in and then the lab lady had to call to get a special code for that type of EBV panel. It was strange.

Thanks everyone for your concerns and information. Ya'll always pull thru

Hugs to everyone!!
