RA numbness???? | Arthritis Information

Does anybody experience any numbness with RA????? Well, I woke up this morning and my left leg was numb and tingly and could barely walk on it. My hands get numb at times but never my legs

Yes, numbness in my hands when I wake up was one of the early signs of RA for me.  I already had nerve problems, but this was much more consistent.  I also have occasional numbness in the feet, but not as often.

Like Michelle said, it could be other things too, so best to get it checked out.

My hands get numb, but only when I have my arm bent for more than a few minutes. Never legs though.I have the same as Linncn.  I agree with everyone.  It's best to get this checked out.Every now and then. Worse if stressedYep I get the hand numbness when I have my arm bent for too long. Same for my legs, if I sit cross legged, or bend my knee to "tight"

Oh yes, in my legs and feet bad.  Lyrica has helped me a lot.

Take care

I've had simular problems for a while now and I've been referred to a neruologist and have an appointment next month. Some of the problem in my hands is likely caused by Raynards Syndrome and my RD thinks CTS. I've experienced the thing with my legs as well. One night I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and my leg gave out under me as soon as I tried to stand up. It was completely numb and even once my husband jumped up and ran over to help me up it was still numb! Very odd feeling.....and scary to say the least. Not 100% sure if it's related to the RA, OA, neruopathy or what; but it's scary.

Yes, I have RA and PA and I have numbness in my legs and feet due to lower back problems caused by PA. Like Bonny, Lyrica has helped a lot. You should call your RD and be evaluated.  Lindy Yes, that was my first symptom,( following 2 years of fatiqe that nearly ruined my life). I was a 20 yr. hair stylist, so I assumed when numb anc chey hands and feet began it was carpal tunnel or somthing, but as it got worse, I feared MS, as my Aunt has that. Anyway my joint pain and sweling did not come until a few months later, then my diagnosis. I still get those tingly zaps now and again, sepecialy when flaring, such as now..
Godd luck,,Yep, numbness every night in my hands while sleeping and my left leg/foot gets numb periodically and sometimes the bottom of the foot tingles.  RD thinks it may be vasculitic neuropathy but since these meds are not helping it at all, I'm not so sure.  MRIs showed herniated discs in the neck and lower spine, but not bad enough to cause such numbness.  Your problem could be from any number of things so, as others said, get thee to a doctor ASAP.  Good luck.  Please keep us posted.  Jesse8839314.5884837963

I too have disk problems found on MRI's. I wear wrist splints at night to sleep and it really does help my hands at night. I was waking up in the middle of the night with my hands totally numb. Like they were asleep and I had absolutely no control over them. It freaked me out.

Thinking back that was definately one of my first major problems early on that caused me to seek help to begin with. RA is known to cause CTS also so I'm hoping the neruologist will be able to at least rule that out and we can just call it RA. Either way I think we're narrowing in on things.

Lovie39314.7117708333OMG!! Lovie, That's exactly what I had this morning no feeling at all in my left leg and I went to get up out of the bed and put my left foot down as usual and I hit the floor!! I couldnt even try to move it. It was limp and tingling!!! scared the living daylights out of me. Well, I called my RD and she said she thinks that I slept on  it wrong and if it happens again tomorrow morning she wants me to come in.  She told me not to get up fast just take my time getting out of bed.  Thank you for your responses. By the way, whats CTS???

That's exactly how it happened to me when I fell out of bed. My leg was totally numb. I find it hard to believe my leg was just asleep. I'm 36 years old and that's never happened to me before. I never mentioned that episode to my RD but I will to the neruologist. It's only happened like that one time; but it was enough to scare me into agreeing to go to see the neruo. The RD has suggested it for close to a year now.

CTS is Caprel Tunnel syndrome. A nerve contraption pretty much.

I think it's interesting that a few of you also see a neurologist.  I was seeing one before the RD because of all the left-sided numbness problems and was finally referred to the RD when blood work suggested RA.  Now I don't see a neuro. at all and I was thinking I'd like to ask the RD about seeing one again because of the continuing leg problems. How many of you see a neuro. and why?  For the numbness or other things?  I'm a little concerned the RD will be offended that I don't think he can handle the whole problem himself, but if these drugs don't start fixing my numbness issues, I guess I'll have to take the leap and ask about the neuro.  That Lyrica sounds promising too. I can relate Lovie very well, Im 45 yrs old and that never happened to me either. I should have known CTS was carpal tunnel syndrome. I have it!!!!! I even had surgery on my right hand years ago. I bet thats what brought on my RA. Oh gosh im going to be praying that it doesnt happen again tomorrow morning. My hands and arms sometimes go "to sleep" at night while I'm in bed. I've even had my feet and legs to it from time to time. I was going to ask about it at my next RD visit. (With my hubby's new work schedule, he gets to go with me. Yay!)The funny thing about it with my RD is that when I told her about it she didnt seem too concerned. She thinks I just slept on it wrong. My arms used to go to sleep too. When I would try to get up out of bed and I would try to push up off the bed with my arms they were like jello they were real numb and tingly. I just thought it was from the CTS. I just kept imaging today that this was the beginning of the end for me. I would have to quit my job and go on disability cause I would no longer be able to drive or walk
