Incredible hand pains.... | Arthritis Information

Oh my goodness! I have been having the worse hand pain while sleeping. It effects my dreams. Last night, I was crying in my dreams from the pain. I could see my fingers actually turning before my very eyes.

Is this the RA or methotrexate...oh dear Lord, I can't even tell you how bad it hurts!!! Dear Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are dealing with. I've been having similar issues. I have been getting up in the middle of the night getting in a VERY hot bath and holding my hands under the running faucet. It helps while they are under there. I also use the paraffin wax (got my heater at Wal-mart for around ). It also helps while I'm using it. I hope you get relief soon. Have you talked to your doctor about the degree of pain and how it wakes you? Maybe he has something that can help you. I hope you feel better soon. Love, Juliah

Lisa,

I am so sorry that you're having such awful pain.  As Juliah said, running hands under hot water or even soaking them may help.  I would definitely call the doctor to see if he can help with the pain.

When I first came down with this damned disease, it was my hands and feet which hurt like crazy.  I could barely put my feet on the ground, and it was painful to hold a book, cook dinner or even drive!

I found something called a "Pil-O-Splint" which really helped tremendously with my hands and wrists.

It's very cushiony inside and it really protects your hands and wrists from the ravages of sleep.  I usually kept my thumbs inside them (there is a thumb hole on the side) so that I didn't end up crushing/twisting my thumbs when I tossed and turned.
Have you ever tried compression sleeves or gloves? They are stretchy and are sort of like an ace bandage, but are safe to sleep in because they can't get too tight and cut off circulation.

My daughter uses a night splint, and once after it was adjusted, she was having some pain. The OT gave us a sleeve to use, and it worked right away! She said the pressure keeps the blood flowing and keeps your joints warm and that decreases your pain.

I think I have seen the gloves at Eckerd's/We Are Changing Our Name to Rite-Aid, but I'm sure any drugstore would have them. Take care. Thanks guys...after I awake they're not nearly as painful...when I was pregnant with my three year old I had severe carpal tunnel in both wrists and had to wear wrist braces all the time...guess I'm gonna have to dig'em out and wear them at night...GREAT!!!! They're just soooo comfortable.

I LOATH THIS DISEASE!!!!!!! Blessed39314.3054282407Sorry Lisa to hear that.  Splints and compression gloves have worked the best for me.  I needed them even after I had bilateral carpal AND cubital syndrome surgery.  Good luck.  I got my gloves online from Isotoner and they are the best.  The fingertips are cut out so I can work with them on. The advice here about the hand pain is helpful. I also have hand pain while sleeping, driving, reading, even resting! I'm gonna dig out my parrifan wax! I hope you are feeling better!Hi Lisa, You might want to talk to your RD.  Doesn't sound as if your meds are controlling the pain and inflammation and if that's the case then you're going to experience damage to the affected joints.  I had the same problem last year and once the inflammation and swelling was controlled the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder pain disappeared.  Lindy
Hi Lisa, You might want to talk to your RD.  Doesn't sound as if your meds are controlling the pain and inflammation and if that's the case then you're going to experience damage to the affected joints.  I had the same problem last year and once the inflammation and swelling was controlled the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder pain disappeared.  Lindy
Hi Miss Lindy...

I would think so as well...but I got my blood test results this morning and all was normal!!! Shows no infammation...what a load of crap!!! Isn't that what causes the pain...I am so tired of all this RA crap!!

Hope you can get some relief soon.
