Enbrel - injection site getting hard? | Arthritis Information

I gave myself an Enbrel injection Saturday. I've been wearing jeans most the weekend so I didn't pay attention to the site. Today, I noticed there is a hard red area around the injection site along with a raised bruise and you can feel heat coming from it. Has anyone had this happen?

Sorry.  I have not had that problem, so I can;t be of any help to you.  I get a slightly raised area, but no lasting redness or heat.

Melanie,

You might touch base with your dr.  If the spot is warm, it could be infected.  Do you use the same site each injection?  I would call just to make sure.

Let us know...

I use the same leg, but different sites. I'm going to call right now and find out if something's wrong. I'll let you know.I get a red spot for about 2-3 days but thats it.

my dr said to switch legs every time I do a shot.  that way it give the muscle time to heal

i have to give my son 2-4 shots everyday for his diabetes. if i don't switch arms oft enough, he gets the same reaction. My shot site gets red and hot and itchy fora couple of days.  But it never gets hard.Well I talked to the nurse and she said to try putting a warm compress on it. It's probably just a localized reaction at the site. She did say to give her a call if I start running a fever or if the redness/swelling spreads because it could be an infection. Well, hopefully the compress will do the trick

Hi  I was taking Enbrel for about 8 months when I started to have minor injection site reactions I would get a red mark that lasted a couple of days I switched to my thigh and did OK for about one month then I had a problem that sounds just like yours.   My leg felt like it was on fire a minute after the shot it became red and hot ( you could feel the heat through my jeans for about 3- 4 days) it looked bruised and swollen and it hurt to walk up and down the stairs I went to the Dr one week later and you could still see the reaction it looked like I had been burned the skin was all dry and flaky also after that the Dr said no more Enbrel he said I developed an allergy to it so I am now taking Remicade and waiting  for it to start working.  Did you talk to the Dr about this?  Good luck and take care

Linda from NJ

I don't think I'm having an allergic reaction - this time.
