picc line....not! | Arthritis Information

Well, looks like I'm not getting a picc line for a number of reasons.  My veins are way too spidery and crooked.  I freaked out when they said they wouldn't sedate me to do it, thusly I made a hysterical fool of myself in the refusal process.

I hate the way this disease plays with my emotions.  For pete's sake, I've been through boot camp, a war, done animal cruelty investigations, go poop in a bag on my tummy and yet this stupid disease is kicking my butt worse than any of those things!!!

Thanks for listening everyone.  You guys are lifesavers!!

Love, Cheryl

Oh Cheryl.  I am sooooooooo sorry.  I just posted to your other thread.  I was really hoping you were going to have a good experience.  I hope the depo medrol has made you feel WAY better and maybe we can start Humira together.  You have had one hell of a time.  A hubby hug is the best but here is  a big hug from me.  RA SUCKS!!!!!!  What an emotional roller coaster ride.

Cheryl--

I have to wonder why they didn't consider Humira, Enbrel or Kineret before Remicade anyway.  I think it's great they now are.

Are you a Navy wife?  Do you go to PNH? PM coming...

Hi Cheryl,

Sorry to hear that you can not get a picc line put in, I have the same problems with my veins and wouldn't you know it that the good veins are in the arm they can't use.  Depro Medrol, I haven't heard of that drug.  How do they administer it?  Sounds like it worked and WELL, too.  I am glad to hear that it did.  I hope the Humira works for you as the Remicade did.  Then the need to have them use your veins for Remicade infusion will be over and that stress will be gone.  That's a good start.

Are you a military veteran? Or is your hubby still in the military?  The reason why I am asking is that I go to a military hospital for my health care needs.  I find them to take a little longer, than a civilian provider, to finally get you in the right place for your health care.  But when they do, everything runs smoothly and they do have excellent medical care.

Yep, Ra sure can play on your emotions and then to have the added problem of an ostomy bag, sure will complicate things even more.  That can differently put a lot of stress on an already stressed out person.

Seems like you are feeling emotionally better.  I am very happy to hear that in your post.  You can do it.  You just needed something to help you on the way to getting where you needed to be.

big (((HUGS)))

Cheryl -

Soo sorry you didn't get the "easy way out"...lol. It probably would have been nice not to get stuck every week or two weeks.

Well, I hope humaira does the job.

I am both a veteran and a Navy wife.  I met my hubby during the Kosovo war.  He was in the German Navy at the time, and our ships were in the same NATO battle group.  He moved here, we got married, he joined our Navy and I retired from the navy in 2003. Yes I go to lovely Portsmouth Naval Hospital.  I think what they gave me was called depo medrol, anyway it's basically a steroid.

I go on Wed. get the teaching about the humira shots.  Do they hurt or sting?

Just realized how rambling this sounded. Sorry!!!!

Thanks and hugs for all! Love, Cheryl

Rambling?  You obviously haven't read one of my long rants.  Your Navy story is too sweet.

As far as the shot, I don't take Humira.  I do Kineret, which requires a shot every day.  Sure, the shot stings/hurts, but only for a few seconds.  Nothing devastating.  The hardest part is learning to self-inject.  Once you finally do it by yourself for the first time, it's easy.  I'm sure others taking Humira will give you more specific information.  Of course, you know PNH won't send a nurse to your house to walk you through it, but several of us are nearby as you know, and if you need moral support or a buddy to stop by, we're as close as a quick email....

Sorry ,you won't be able to get one put in,no you hoping to get one, so you won't go through misery the next time,

Good luck with the Humira, Im an Enbrel girl myself.
