changed my meds | Arthritis Information

Well, I finally got message to my RD that the Medrol wasn't helping, so he took me off of it completely and put me on Oxaprozin 1200 mg a day. Hopefully, that will make a difference. While I had the receptionist on the phone I asked for the results of my labwork done last week. Guess what....."NORMAL". I know I'm not the only one hearing this lately! UGH!

Anyone have any feedback about the Oxaprozin??

Thanks

Sorry, I never heard of it, but I hope it works for you

No problem Lovie. I first went to RD last week. My labs were elevated in June. After exam he was pretty sure its' RA, but wanted to see how I reacted to prednisone, obviously I didn't. I've been havin problems with my joints for over a year now. It's about time someone is actually tryin to find out why.

Sorry if my spellin is bad...some of my keys on keyboard don't want to work, usually between f and j on keyboard. Occasionally I can squeak one out, if I'm lucky. Or I find a better word!

Wow...Thanks Chris!

At least you have an excuse on the wrong spellings; Don't sweat it. I don't even have an excuse. lol

I know after my first visit to the RD she prescribed predisone as well. She called me two days later and the difference was unbelievable to me. It really did help me ALOT! She said the fact that I reacted so well served to confirm her dx. I'm seronegative with an occational elevated seds rate; but I met several other criteria. They dx'ed me the first day but my doctor felt better with her dx once she heard how well I reacted to the predisone.

You not responding to it is strange. Has advil or Motrin helped you in the past? It will help OA or RA. I hope you'll be able to figure out what's going on soon. I know it's hard knowing somethings wrong but not knowing what.

Hang in there.

I was takin Alleve and it did nada. I know it is not OA, like I was told in March by orthopedic doc. RD, did xrays and said it definately was not OA. I definately have inflammed joints, and some sort of inflammatory arthritis. That is all I know. I'm sure like others here, it will be a bit of a mystery for a while, but I think (hope) I'm on the road to findin out the facts.

I was told by a nurse friend that the pred. should have helped within a couple of days. I was hopeful.

Deb, even tho your blood tests came back normal you could still have RA.  many people are what they call sero-negqtive and it never shows up in bloodwork.  Diagnosis is not made with just the blood work results.  I m sero negative and most liikely will be for the rest of my life.

What was the dose of medrol that you were on?  Sometimes just a regualr medrol pack does not help me and I have to go on a higher dose of the pred.

I now know, that my bloodwork isn't the only way to dx me (thanks to all of you guys here) but I want a solid dx...I'm very impatient! Not that I want RA, not at all, but I'm the kind of person that wants to know what it is and take care of it. I don't want my doc to not take me seriously because bloodwork is "normal" and make light of my pain. I'm a hairdresser and if I don't get whatever this is under control, I don't know what I'll do.

Anyway, I was on 8mg a day of Medrol, and it did nothing for me at all. I didn't have any side effects or relief. So, I'll try the Daypro...see what happens. I feel like a guinea pig. I guess this is how it goes with RA...you just need to find just the right treatment, for each person.

Deb, sorry your blood work came back normal.  Its a good and bad thing right lol  Glad that your dr isnt going to just completly dismiss you having RA though, alot of drs do.  I dont have any personal expierence w/ the Oxaprozin and was going to give you the drug information that I found on www.drugs.com but it looks like Chris had already done that.  Hope it helps you out, let us know.

Yeah...we can certainly feel like guinea pigs sometimes with all the different meds we have to try to find the right one that works for us.

I know you want a solid dx and it is just heck waiting to get to one.  It is one of the most frustrating things to go thru.  Not only do you want to have a solid dx for your own peace of mind and to get treatment started, but also for insurance reasons so that your insurance will pay for all of this.

Hang in there...it will come.
