Peanut buter! I catch mice in my basement with it all the time Lynda Good luck, I hate mice!my parents always put a dab of peanut butter, not sure why it attracted the little buggars, but it did!yea I was going to say peanut butter as wellGet a CAT!

I was going to say "a rat, with any luck "

Peanut butter. Everyone else seems to agree. That's what I always heard you put in mouse traps...just put in a bit more for a rat.

Well I was going to say Cheese Duh!!! Or a whole pie or turkey, like on Tom & Jerry....

But like Nini said you probably don't want a smart ass answer.

I've never heard of peanut butter before. My grandma must have some STUPID mice/rats because she never even baits the traps and she still catches them....

You could try car insulation, you already know he likes it!!!

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself [QUOTE=Linncn]You could try car insulation, you already know he likes it!!!

They're not tempted by cheese, cake, peanut butter etc but put a bit of mars bar in and they come running.

Here's hoping you find something that works. What about food for pet rats?  I used to have pet hamsters and rats when I was little; they had some sort of kibble at the pet store that the rodents just loved to eat. Lindy, thanks for making me laugh today! you brightened my afternoon!Bacon, works every time!!!!  Good luck, Janie.

The rat won!!

He /she got the food and the trap didn't trip! dang. When I tried to put more food on it sprung it/????? is it defective? I put bird seed, a peanut *didn't have any peanut butter, and he ate up all the BBQ sauce and bread!! This is WAR!!

Get the sticky glue traps; they have some sort of sent that brings the buggers on board....i know, some people don't like that you see them trying to wiggle out, but a rat is a rat is a rat...well, or a big mouse.Nooooo, not the sticky!!  Horrible way to go, even if you are a  rat.  I guess you could put them out of their misery when you find them all stuck up though.  Guess that wouldn't be too bad.

Ewww, sounds like you have a smart little buggar on your hands.

Linncn,

I'm not sure which is worse, having your head or legs slammed or getting stuck on some glue.  Either way, not fun.  I don't like rodents though, so they must be eliminated.....I think the glue is a better way to go, lol.  To each his own.

I saw pics of some little creatures stuck on that sticky paper.  It was nasty.  The pics could have been really extreme examples, I don't know if it always goes like I saw.

I used the sticky traps one time and when the mouse got on it only it's back legs were stuck. I heard a terrible noise in the basement and when I opened the door the mouse was flipping and trying to crawl and trying to knock himself loose against the wall(shudders). It was terrible, hubby hit it in the head with baseball bat (which I could not have done) then threw it into the woods. I think I would have freaked if I had been home alone

yeah I wanted him dead not suffering and squealing.

My g/f uses the sticky traps all the time and loves them. I just had a bad experience

A couple years ago I read a GREAT book about rats in NYC and the guy they talked to says  they love scrambled eggs.. serve it on a cute little blue rimmed plate with fresh bacon and coffee.

good luck

Hi all, and thanks for making me lol! Honestly, you've all turned a bad thing into a real hoot....Lynda

i use decon packets. just open the little box and set it where they are busy and they eat some and go somewhere and die. it also embalms them so they don't stink. i hope you get rid of it. i am so afraid of them.

LOL that cracked me up! Would you place it in front the mouses little doorway too? LOL

Sherry46539318.8285648148You said you used a peanut not peanut butter, seriously try peanut butter cause it is sticky and hard for them to get off so they have to work harder to get it which means they are more likely to spring the trap. also have you considered the rat is to big for the trap?

I am glad I have not replied to this post with what hubby use to do to a mouse that would get caught on a sticky trap.

Ok... I am ready for hubby to be seen as a cruel, evil person that he really is.

When a mouse would get caught on a sticky trap... and the mouse was still alive.... he would .... put the mouse and trap in an empty cereal box and take it out to the burn pile and burn it. Oh and just to make sure the mouse would not get loose in anyway... before he put it in the box he would push the mouse's head down into the glue and make sure it was stuck on there. Oh and hubby also stood out there until the fire went out and then watered the pile down before leaving it.

Yeah... he saw that story about a guy who tried to burn a mouse, and the mouse caught on fire and ran into the man's house and caught his house on fire.

Oh, and this surprises you?! He even swerves to hit animals in the road. He keeps track of what animals he has hit with the car. He has recently added to his list 2 birds. Yes, and he tells everyone about hitting these animals.

And he has been called "Pure Evil" by his own use-to-be bosslady. Yep and when she sees him in town she will ask what new animal he has added to his "Road-kill List".

I am not proud of him. Nope not at all.

Got it!! Baco Bits was on one trap and choc. candy bar on the other one. Baco Bits did the trick. Thanks all!! Now, I'm going to continue to 'live with a baited trap under my car for awhile' WHO KNOWS there may be an army of them waiting to come into my garage!!Lynda
