What temp ranges is considered a Low grade fever?

I think I am going to start taking my temp when I feel crappy. And see if I get fevers.

Last night I took my temp and it was 99.4

Hi Joonie, I think it is 37.7 and upwards for adults, so says my thermometer!!!  Good idea to keep an eye on it, mine is always up but apparently that is usual with RA, best of luck, Janie.

You realize low grade fevers can be a Lupus symptom.....Not to get you paranoid or anything, I'm just sayin.

I dunno, 100 and under?

Janie, don't forget, you talk Celcius, we talk Fahrenheit~Yep cheers hillhoney, Janie. Joonie I was running a low grade fever and called my rheumy about it. My normal temp is around 97 degrees and it was hovering around 99 degrees, which isn't high by normal standards, but high for me. He said it was probably because I was trying to taper pred too fast and to go back up to 5mg. then taper slowly again. First I have ever heard of that, but my fevers went away.Body temperature varies throughout the day as well.  It's typically lower in the morning and higher in the afternoon (by as much as a degree or more).

Well see when I get my temps took at Dr's offices my temps are always below the normal body temp of 98.6, it is usually in the 97. something range. But the other night it was 99.4.

Thanks owiedeb, that is why I decided to take my temp to see if I do have fevers.

When would be a good time to check to see if I have a fever? When I am feeling icky? Thru the day I have at least a couple of times that I just feel runned down and that is after not doing anything and then I feel better after a while. It is not because of my blood sugar, I know what that feels like I use to have low blood sugar when I was a teenager. But it feels more like a cloud of icky has been lifted off of me. I felt the same way when I finished taking my antibiotics. I just felt better.

Joonie - after my daughter had a steroid injection, she ran a lowgrade temp almost everyday. Her normal temp range is like yours, and she was running 99.3, 99.4, 99.7. She felt SO BAD! If it ever went up over 100, you would never know - she'd be running around fine! But the lowgrades were killers, like you say.

Never explained, stopped after about six weeks.

 Joonie

How are you feeling today? Any better?

Why dont you take your temp maybe 3 times a day, at the same time, and keep a record. See when your spikes and lows are.

Hope you're neck is doing better

I have never really thought about when I feel icky if I have a temp, just thought it was the way my body was.

Mo'Nana - Yes my neck is a little better. It probably would have helped if I would have took a 2nd robaxin last night, but I fell asleep and did not wake up until time to get daughter off for school.

Neck is still tense and stiff, but it does not hurt. So, no worries about the neck, it just needed a pain pill and muscle relaxer.

I am going to ask that question when I go to the dr. Monday. My temp is usually 97. For the last 3 months it is 99 -99.5 almost every time I have checked. It was up at my last 2 dr appts. I know lupus is a possible dx for me but I don't have positive bloodwork for it. Hopefully I'll remember to ask and post what I find out.

Hi Joonie,

Isn't low-grade fever one of the symptoms of RA?  I am "normally" about 97, but when I am in pain...even if not flaring...and I am nearing that time to do my Remicade, I run about 99.3 or so...sometimes higher, but never over 100.  I nearly always ran a fever before starting the Remicade, but it handles the pain, the inflammation, and the fever pretty darned well.

I hope your neck is all better soon!

My rheumatologist says it can cause low-grade fever, especially when inflammation is high.  If you normally take NSAID's for pain/inflammation they will reduce your fever to "normal" body temperature and you're not likely to notice any fever.

hummm.... yeah this is all greek to me

Ok let me go take my temp brb.

Ok just took my temp and it is 99.4.

I will take it tonight around 1am, and see what it says my temp is then. And I guess when I wake up tomorrow too.

I just checked my temp, 4 hours later, and it was 98.6. And I feel good again, but when it was 99.4, 4 hours ago, I felt like I was starting to feel bad again. Ok just checked my temp again... because I just woke up about 20 mins ago. And my temp was 98.2. But I drank room temperature water to take my pred. Would that affect it? I drank it about 20 mins ago. joonie39319.5792708333

Hey Joonie...yes, drinking water can lower your temp or at least affect it in some way.

I think the most important feature is how you feel.  The number on the thermometer is an indicator, but you're taking your temp because you feel lousy and the number backs it up.  Then again with this disease you can have a great result (normal temp, etc.) and still feel sick.

I've had a low grade temp, baby rosy cheeks (the ones on my face girls & boys
