I was just put on Prednisone for a bad cold. While on it, it helped with the pain in my body. I just spoke to the nurse and asked her if a person could be on that for other things besides the cold. She told me no, that it is only to relieve my cold. I have read were many of you are on prednisone alot. Could someone please  help me out and explain how come they are treating you all with it for RA and I can't get my doctor to treat me for it.  I too have OA and RA. But I am a newly diagonised RA patient. I havn't gotten to go to the RA doc yet. They are still trying to get me an appt.

Prednisone has many many side effects.  Your gp is just being careful.  She probably wants you to see an expert, your rheumy and have him prescribe it.  It is only used for extreme flares or maintenance.  You really don't want to take it if you don't have to.  Good luck on your appt. with rheumy.. Write down all your questions and ask the expert.  HUGS

Prednisone for colds? I thought they used it for asthma? I guess they could use it for colds too. Haven't met many RA patients that haven't been on prednisone at some point. If you don't need it usually, then don't get started...it's hard to get off of and like roxy said, it has many side effects. Good luck!
