Hi All.
Got my first script for Methotrexate (starting on 7.5 mg)today. When is it best to take it. Any advice and ideas welcome. Hopefully this will keep a lid on it!!
Have to go back in month so they can review and make any alterations to the dose.

I take mine every Sunday morning and fortunatly enough I dont experience any side effects. You may want to take it first thing in the morning or maybe last thing at night before you go to sleep. Some people opt for the latter so that they sleep through the side effects. Drink lots of water the day you take it and make sure you go to have regular check ups on your bloods. Good luck with it. I hope it works for you as well as it has for me.

I did take my MTX on Friday nights, when I first started it. But then I moved it to Saturday morning, because of the headaches and slight nausea that I first got with it and it prevented me from sleeping. I don't get them any more.
I think you will have to figure out how it effects you then decide how you should take it, so if something does happen, it doesn't interfere with what you need to do. Then you may not have any side effects, boy, wouldn't that be great?

I started taking mine Friday mornings... i guess it was because I seem to have my RD appt on Thursdays and i got the script filled afterwards and started it the next morning... I can say that i have the fatigue that comes with it, because I can sleep all weekend, but then i can also get up and go if i need to. Part of it is because I am on vacation for a week or so more. I take mine on Sunday mornings. When I first started taking it and everytime they increase mine (up to 20mg a week), I have dizziness and tiredness. The dizziness goes away but I haven't beat the tiredness yet. Mondays are usually my toughest. My Thursday I'm picking up speed and then we start all over on Sunday. Hope it works for you without any problems.
I take mine on Friday mornings...haven't had any side effects til I was upped to 7 pills...now on 8 (20mgs). Figured I'd take them on Friday so I can nap on the weekends if needed... and when I started 8 pills a week, naps were definatley required.I started taking mine on Fridays mornings so I'd feel good for the weekends and it seems to wear off about Wednesday evening.

When I first started MTX, I suffered badly from the usual side effects so my rheumy told me to split the doses up by taking part doses every second day. This has worked fine for me and I no longer have any side effects

BOOKWORM; ARE YOU TAKING ANY MEDS ALONG WITH THE MTX?? I GOT MY RX ON TUESDAY AND WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN, I WANTED TO START RIGHT AWAY. THE NEXT DAY.....BUT, IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER, I'D TAKE ON FRIDAYS. THAT WAY IF YOU DO HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS YOU HAVE THE WEEKEND TO RECOUP. I AM NO LONGER ON MTX DUE TO SIDE EFFECTS. ONE WARNING FROM EXPERIENCE, STAY AWAY FROM CROWDS , SICK PEOPLE, AND TREAT EVERY CUT, SHAVING NICK ETC WITH SOAP,WATER AND ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT. MTX IS A GREAT DRUG AND WORKS WELL BUT IT IS A POWERFUL IMMUNE SUPPRESANT. I CONTRACTED BOTH TB AND A SKIN STAPH INFECTION WITH MRSA (FLESH EATING SKIN BACTERIA). NO FUN. NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU, JUST MAKING YOU BE AWARE AND CAREFUL. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY NAUSEA, HAD SOME MILD HAIR LOSS AND FATIGUE BUT IT HELPED VERY MUCH WITH THE PAIN.
