Craftmatic Bed? | Arthritis Information

Has anyone tried a Craftmatic bed?  When I flare, one or both of my shoulders are  always involved.  It’s too painful to try and lie down in my bed so I always end up in my recliner in the living room.  I was wondering if a Craftmatic bed might help?

Hi kweeb, my sister and BIL just purchased one of these beds about a month ago. So far they love it!  It was a bit pricey but the shoulder issue was one of my sister's main problems too. Theres so many positions  you can adjust to one of them would be bound to work for you! Good luck if you get one!

Hey kweenb, back when I was spending a lot of time in bed and hurting literally all over, I had a chance to try out a craftmatic bed for a couple of nights.  I thought it was wonderful and I finally got a good nights sleep.  It was always hard for me to stay in a comfortable position for very long so most nights were pretty restless.  The craftmatic allowed me to adjust so I could easily get comfy again and go right back to sleep.  As moana said, they're a bit pricy but I think well worth it.

If you end up getting one, please come back and tell us all about it.  I think many of us have wondered about it.  I have often thought it would be good for my mother.

Two questions that have come to mind - does the mattress wear out sooner because of being bent and folded, and is it difficult to keep the fitted sheets on - do you have to buy special sheets?

Also, you might do a little research on similar brands now available.  There is a furniture chain in our area that carries a bed that appears to be the same type of bed, and it is considerably cheaper.  You may have something like that in your area also.

Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Hillhoney39321.3773263889My hubby and I were both interested in getting one and went so far as to contact the co. We received it but there wasnt any priced listed which is what we were really wanting. I figured if they don't list it, we probably could not afford it and let it drop.

Well, I can tell you that years ago (like maybe 15) I was interested in the recliner chair Craftmatic made at the time.   It was supposedly made to fit your measurements, which sounded wonderful to me.  I also sent for info to find out what the chair cost, and was given the same sort of packet of info, without a price.

We actually had a salesman come out to our house to tell us about the chair, and it was a high pressure sales pitch.  The chair was more than ,000, and we said we couldn't afford that.  Then he proceeded to give us financing options and kept pushing.  He was an obnoxious, sleazy type of door-to-door salesman, and wouldn't take no for an answer.   He even did this staged phone call to his boss, and explained with an air of total shock and dismay that we weren't going to buy the chair.  It actually became pretty comical the different things he tried!  I just said no, I would not pay that much for a chair - a price comparable to a decent used car at the time!

Days later I got a phone call from Craftmatic, saying they just happened to have a chair that was purchased by someone and then returned, and they could give me a great deal on it.  So much for having a chair designed just for you!

I think that is the way they handle sales - they want to get the salesman in your home to pressure you into a purchase, so they won't reveal the cost ahead of time.  That is why when I saw a similar bed on a commercial for a local furniture store it caught my eye.  It was somewhere I could go in and try out the bed, see if I like it before I buy it, and make an informed decision.

Karen, sister and BIL's bed are twin to fit their king size frame. The difference is the twin sheets are longer, regular twin sheets are too short.

Oh and theirs is the memory foam mattress. Don't know if they all are or not.

I don't have a Craftmatic bed, but I did purchase an "electric" bed from IKEA.  I LOVE it.  I, too, had issues with shoulders, neck and during a really bad flare my husband had to help me in and out of bed.  That  convinced me to "bite the bullet" and purchase something that would assist.  We bought 2 single beds and have them pushed together to make a King.  We use single sheets on each side but blankets and bedspread are king size.  If you have an IKEA in your area, you might want to check it out.

How frustrating!! I just typed a long, involved answer, and lost it before it posted!

Shorter answer than my original: We bought an Electropedic bed several years ago and just love it! Mine has latex foam mattresses, which are very comfortable on painful bones and joints.

You can do an online search and find many different companies that make these beds, but be sure to get a latex foam mattress. Also, on some of the much cheaper models you might have a poorer quality motor.

They wouldn't tell us the price online, either, but my husband called the company and told them he wanted to buy one. Someone came on the phone and he was able to make a bit of a  deal with them. Ours is a queen-size (two "twins" put together) and it was 00, delivered the next day and set up on our headboard.

I think ours was well worth the price we paid for it. Even when I can't sleep, at least my body gets some rest from the pain if I just lay down.

By the way, our latex foam mattresses are not wearing  fast at all. We flip them and turn them end to end, occasionally.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Wow.  I didn't realize they would be this expensive.  Gee, 00-00 for a bed.  That's outrageous, isn't it.  Some of the businesses weren't too bad on the frame but wanted to charge 00 for the mattress.  Seems like the frame would be more expensive since its electronic.

I did finally find a place that will sell the bed and the mattress together for 00.  Makes me wonder if it's any good compared to the rest of them.  It's from Preferred Healthcare.

kweenb,

Can't say I have tried the Craftmatic bed.   I decided to go the Sleep Number route.   I bought my sleep number bed over 2 years ago and love it.   I also had shoulder pain at night which would wake me up on my old bed.  It got so bad I would have to sit up in bed to relieve the pain.  But now if I do wake up, I readjust my shoulder and fall right back to sleep.

The beds are pricey. It took me a year to pay it off.

I also added a tempurpedic mattress pad for added comfort.   Now it is heaven.

A good bed can go a long way.

I tried craft matic brand and slid off the sides too much and didn't have the leg support to hold me.

I have a family member with a sleep number bed that keeps popping.

But, I did like the sharper image temperpedic bed.  It was short enough for me (most are too tall, im 5ft 4in) and it was comfy, quiet and firm, not to mention temperpedic lol.  Also, that one brand does "not" have formaldyhide (spelled wrong probably) like other fake temperpedics do.

That's my 2 cents hope it helps.
