When to see an ortho... | Arthritis Information

I have stopped having any flares since the increase in my prednisone last week but... my left foot (the first toe and the balls of my feet/metatarsil) are still really in pain and even a little black and blue.

Do any of you also see an ortho?  Should I just see the RD?  I am just worried that the RD would take a look at it, draw more blood and then just send me to an ortho....I am so new at all of this and it is really beginning to depress me.  I cannot stand it in my foot because it is near impossible to avoid using your feet!!! I have an 8:30 a.m. ortho appointment tomorrow, no matter what I suppose it is a good idea to find an ortho to add to the RA Team!

Gosh Sparky that sounds like gout to me. Horrendous pain for me! I always go to my Ortho Dr. for gout. If thats what it is. there are meds for it, Colchasine (sp) and Alapurinol. Wouldn't hurt to go and see. Good luck! Feel better soon.

I think it's a good idea. I hardly have any problems with my feet (i have a bit of plantar fasciitis and erosion in one little toe) and I'm seeing an ortho today to get casts of my feet for orthotics. My RA treatment is holistic so it's part of the package.

Mona, Do you get gout in the toe next to your big toe?  I always thought it was the big toe.  Mine is not really the toe but the bottom joint next to the ball of the foot.  I will ask the ortho tomorrow.

About two mo. ago I dropped a large laminated board on the top of my bare foot. Actually, it was the corner that hit -yikes, I saw stars! The top of my foot turned black, blue, green, yellow, etc. It hurt, but nothing more than any other pain I was having. Now that my Pain Dr has my pain under control, my foot is killing me. Is it possible that I broke a bone and didnn't realize it due to all the other pain I was dealing with? Also, is there anything that can be done this much later?

my motto:   "don't fix it if it ain't broken"   but owiedeb   "fix it if it IS broken"      get to dr. for xrays at least...bruised bones hurt like heck.

and don't drop anything else....take care

I had orthotics put in shoes last month and I feel great, all the difference in the world,,,,he took pictures on computer and I have no balls left in the bottom of my right foot....

imagine no balls at all.....rose
Rose, you reminded me of something my mother said. She was here for son's graduation and we were out sightseeing. Towards the end of the day she said she wanted to go home because her "balls" hurt - she meant the balls of her feet of course, but with teenage boys here, they thought it was hysterical.

Sparky I have had gout in my heels, toes, sides of feet,,, ugh! Gout causes bruising, discoloration, and swelling. Have also had it in my thumb and two fingers. Looked like my hand was a purple/red balloon

He wants me to continue with my current meds and take tylonol if if hurts too much. He believes the rA meds will work...eventually. I'm on a lot, very expensive, so I sure hope so.

Not sure about your foot problems so I don't want to dispute what your doctors saying.....but I've had NUMEROUS cortisone injections over the years for RA. Did he mean to imply that the injections wouldn't help RA? Or just this particular foot problem?Likewise Lovie, I've also had numerous cortison injections for RA related pain.
