Vit B12 very low | Arthritis Information

I have to go in tomorrow for a B12 shot. I'm nervous about it, is there any reason for me to be nervous? Do they hurt?!

Chico, I was recently diagnosed with "anemia from inflammation" from the PMR.  I was first low on iron, and the hematologist was able to get it up to normal after about 6 months.  You can be either B12 anemic or iron anemic.  In my case, I just didn't have enough blood on top of the iron thing.  The PMR inflammation was using it up somehow.  Anyhow, I started Procrit injections last week to build red blood cells.  So, after all that, PMR and RA will mess with your blood sometimes.

Everyone always says they feel wonderful on B12.  Hope that's the case for you.

Hi Chico,

Just before I was diagnosed with PMR I tested low on B12 and took shots everday for a week, then once a week for a few more weeks.  The shots are just shots, sometimes they didn't hurt at all if they used a really small needle and sometimes they hurt a little, like a vaccination

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Take care, Kathy

Thanks guys, well the whole thing was a fizzer! Turned up to have my shot and it seems the docs got the message from the lab wrong and wrote down B12 in the book instead of D. I already knew I had low vitamin D. And my B12 levels are fine, so I am very relieved. Now I just need some sunshine to get my D levels up. It has been a very wet winter and I've got no sun at all, what with feeling sick and cold for months, the only part of me to see the light of day is my face and fingertips! But I'm taking VitD3 20mcgs a day (800IU) along with my 1000mg calcium. Going for a bone density scan on Monday. At least I know THAT won't hurt, apart from in the pocket, at 0. Chico, Great news!!!!! Noce to have something good in this medd!
