Hi Gilly

Hi Gilly - I take methotrexade 15mg per week. The only problem I had was I started on it too high and had to come down and start all over again. My stomach felt a little blah - so I always add ice cream
I would like to know if anyone is taking MTX with sulfasalizine
Yesterday i saw my consultant and my ESR result is high i also had a steroid injection in my wrist and a one in my bum (for an overall affect ) to see me through till 15th October and i have started to feel a bit better today

Hi Gilly, welcome to AI!
The side effects are most times not a problem for most, but people do get nausea, fatigue, ect. Most times if the side effects while on pill form are too much for one to handle, they will switch you to injectible MTX.
That is all I know from reading on the board. Maybe someone else will come along and answer your questions better.
Welcome to the board!
Thanks for your warm replys its nice to chat with people who understand [QUOTE=wills08]Gilly, I'm on sulfa (actually on week 2 of the weaning process), have you suffered from dry eyes with is? Sorry to pinch your thread....

Try not to be too worried....and good luck!

Hi Gilly! Welcome! JasmineRain , Everyone seems so lovely here thanks for the welcomeI will be starting on 7 .5 mg i think
Welcome to to AI Gilly. Glad you're here.
I take MTX and have for years. It's been a great medication for me and I really don't have too many side effects; at least not the ugly ones you are likely afraid of. When I first started out I was really tired the next day and my stomach was kind of iffy for about 24. Even those side effect have pretty much gone away now.
You might want to start out taking it at night on a day when you don't have to work the next day (If you work). If you do it that way if you feel the need to rest then you'll be able to without worry.
Try not to be too worried. More of us are thrilled with MTX than aren't. There's a great chance that you'll be one of the ones that does well.
I took sulfersalizine years ago. Worked pretty well for me for the first couple of years. I hated those big round pills though! At least MTX are tiny little pills.
Good Luck!
Hello and welcome! I take sulfasalazine and Methotrexate together. I started with a low dose and went up to 25mg. I got very sick and tired on 25mgs once a week so my doctor has me take 12.5mg on Tuesday night and 12.5mg on Friday night. It seems to work better for me that way. When I first started I was wiped out the entire next day, but it did get better. Good luck!Welcome Gilly!
For me the MTX side effects were stomach upset and nausea. But as time went on the side effects lessen and the folic acid helps as well.
Good luck and I wish you great results. MTX is a really tried and true med and is very helpful to most people with RA.
Welcome to the board, Gilly! I don't take MTX but I'm sure you'll find a lot here that do.Hello Gilly, and welcome! I have taken MTX for almost 9 years. The main side effects that I have are a queasy stomache and for about 2 days I am quite fatigued also. But I do need to say that since MTX I feel like my RA flares haven't been as severe as they were before I started it. Hi Gilly

Welcome Gilly!
I've been on Methotrexate for several years, and the only problem I had was pretty severe nausea during the time when I was taking it orally. I was switched to injectable a few months ago and I've not had any gastric problems thus far.
Good luck!
I feel like a completely different person.
