Hi guys, I woke up from an awful fitful nights sleep with the coughing keeping me awake, today my ribs and lungs are so sore from coughing. My temperature was 38.9 and I felt lousier than usual.  My body had aches and pains that aren't usually there so I phoned my Dr as I am halfway through the antibiotics and don't feel the slightest bit better.

She told me to come in and when she checked me out, she said, I had a terrible chest infection but it hadn't gone to pneumonia yet, but she wanted a chest Xray taken because of MTX complications and the pred use, she said that the pred could be masking the severity of the infection.  Great!!!    So I had my Chest XRAY and I have been taking ventolin thru the nebuliser to help calm the coughing down, she also gave me more antibiotics to take with the original ones, I am allergic to penicillin so I can't have that, so I have Rulide and Keflex.

Please wish me luck as my new drug is awaiting me, and I have to get the all clear from this first.  Hope you are all having a reasonably good day, kind hugs Janie.

Hi Janie,

I'm so sorry to hear about what you're going through.  Do you know what kind of complications from the MTX?

My husband is in bed with pneumonia at the moment, and is also allergic to penicillin.  They've given him Levaquin to take once a day.  They also told him to take Mucinex, which is an OTC drug.

Your condition is twice as bad, though, as you have to suffer with RA, as well.  I'll keep you in my prayers, and hope that you improve with each hour.Hi Janice, the last time this happened to me, I was admitted to hospital as a precaution as they thought I had methotrexate lung, which is very dangerous, google methotrexate lung and it will explain it better than I can, I think its pretty uncommon but it can happen anytime even when you have been on MTX for years.  Anyway I didn't have it back then, but the chest infection would not improve until we stopped the MTX temporarily which I have had to do again today.  Hope your hubby improves.  Is he on MTX?  hugs Janie and thanks for the prayers.

Wow, Janie!  I'd never heard of that, and it said that it is extremely rare.  You poor thing!  It said it occurs mostly in older pts.  Mind if I ask your age?  I really hope you recover quickly.

Hubby's not on MTX, but I am for most of 18 yrs. now.  I'll be 51 in a couple months.  (Just mentioned that because of the age thing with this.)  Thanks for the good wishes for Bill, but the prognosis is good.

How long have you been on MTX?

One thing I have to say is that RA creates a whole sh*t load of complications!  If it's not from the disease itself, it's from the drugs we take to help us!

Please take care of yourself.  Is there anyone there to help you out?

Hi again Janice, I am 43, diagnosed at 36, although was diagnosed with some sort of arthritis when I was 21, but I was an athlete and ignored it and went into remission, but it was never as bad as this.  I have been on and off MTX for 7 years, its the only one I can tolerate a bit longer than a couple of weeks, then this always happens.  Garys mum and dad are here but they don't help out really, just have the kids after school for an hour or two if I have to travel to DRs.  Gary is my main helper, without him I would be lost.  My house needs a complete overhaul - never mind.  Thanks for your concern Janice, hugs Janie. Janie~ I am soo sorry that you are still not feeling well and that the antibiotics arent helping you.  Hopefully the new ones do the trick so you dont have to be admitted back into the hospital.  How did the chest x-ray come back?

Janie- I was hoping you we're seeing some impronement by now but I see your not

Hpoe Bill is doing better too, Musinex is good stuff!

That keflex is serious stuff - you should feel right as rain soon.

Aw Janie, hang in there. Rulide and Kelflex should do the job. I am allergic to penicillin too and that combo is exactly what they gave me when I had a chest infection in June. This should hit it.
