seeking humor..... | Arthritis Information

I can't thank you all enough for getting me through the lowest time I've had in years. I am feeling so much better today. I realized at some point yesterday that I had a fever, which helps account for why I was feeling so sick. I'm still not feeling great, but definately not the despondency I had the past several days. I decided to focus on whatever is funny. I rented a few seasons worth of Reno 911 (a very funny show, but does carry bad language and definately not a wholesome type of humor). Some friends sent some funny youtube videos (the Ms. Teen South Carolina one most recently). Anyone have any favorite humorous websites, youtube videos, movies or books they wanna share? (I sound like a teacher, don't I?)  I guess the book I just finished wasn't the best to be reading during a depression. It was about a television reporter who was hospitalized in a mental institution due to suicidal ideation. (yeah, great choice julia, I know). Anyone got any funny books to recommend? I love to read.  Thank you to all of you. love, juliah

Thank you watchingwolf for all you have already posted. You and your sister sound like a lot of fun!

Juliah - I am so glad to see that you walked through a very hard door to open, step through, enter and come out the other side intact, but wiser, stronger and more confident.  Most people just keep banging their heads against their personal door and never open it up and walk through the pain to get to the freedom on the other side.

My favorite funny movies are early Jim Carrey movies as he usually just pokes fun at his character (self), like the Ace Ventura, Pet Detective movies.  I find nothing funny in funny movies that destroy people's business by flying a car through it or something stupid like that :)  Have a good, healing, funny, safe, wonderful day - you earned it.

Hey Julia!  So glad you're feeling better today

Linda

My wife and I just finished all three seasons of Arrested Development. It's hilarious.

As for books, I found the Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving pretty funny, though the book has some extraordinarily bleak events in it, too.

Julia, I watched Michael with John Travolta the other day and I love that movie.  It isn't a comedy in the traditional sense but it makes you chuckle.  It's a very uplifting movie, has a couple of places that make you cry but it's a good cry.

I LOVE Reno 911, want to get the set because I missed so many of them.  The halloween one is going to become a classic.  What even makes it funnier is I lived in the Reno area for 10 years before we retired.

Take care, Lindy

David, Arrested Development is sooo funny!  I love that show, it's just so bizarre

I think you are definitely on the right track. Nothing like a good funny movie to cheer you up!

I can't believe that Lindy said "Michael" with John Travolta! That is exactly what I was going to say. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. One of my sisters says that my husband is Michael... he's an angel, but "...not that kind of angel"

Some of the animated movies lately, are not entirely for kids. I loved Shrek, Madugascar, and Over the Hedge. Finding Nemo is a riot, too. My granddaughter (2 years) thought all turtles were named "Dude" for a while. Oh, Oh, wait...Monsters, Inc.!! Truly great movie!

Also, "The Whole Nine Yards" is pretty funny, too.

Hope you find some things that you really like and that bring smiles back to you.

Let us know what you like , okay?

Love,Nini

That's all that popped to the top of my head. Heh As far as movies go...Justin and I just watched a marathon on SciFi of Bruce Campbell movies. I LOVE BRUCE CAMPBELL. He's so rediculous. HI the movie dumb and dumber is really good for a laugh, with Jim Carrey, Meet the Fockers with Robert De Niro, hope you keep getting better, love Janie.

Some good funny books I read were by Janet Evanowich. She wrote a series of books. THe first one was "One For The Money" She is a Jersey girl and goes to work as a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie. She has a craZy family and friends. I think the books go all the way to twelve. I enjoyed everyone and actually laughed out loud at her crazy grandmother that carrys a big gun.

I vote for Janet Evanowich also.  Not very often that I've laughed outloud when reading a book.  Really funny descriptions of people and situations.  Also good story line and writing for a quick read.  LindySpeaking of books, Marilyn Keyes has some really funny ones.  In particular "Rachel's Holiday".  It's laugh out loud funny.  Maybe I'll pull it out and read it again.

Hi!  Here are some other ideas!  Just a few items that make me laugh, or feel happy, when pain is taking over my body!
