Totally OT - outfit for bridal shower | Arthritis Information

Next Saturday I'm throwing a co-ed wedding shower for my sis and her fiance (she thinks bridal shower is too girly, so it's going to be a wedding shower). Everything's pretty much lined up:

the restaurant...Maggiano's Little Italy (yum, yum!)

What's missing? What to wear!  It's a 1:00 pm Saturday affair, both men and women, at an Italian chain restaurant (but a nice chain) in one of their banquet rooms.  What would you wear?

My mother has no idea either (she forgot she'd need an outfit and panicked when I mentioned it yesterday), and hubby's no help as he's never been to a shower before.  What I was thinking was a nice sorta dressy top that I could wear with black pants and low heeled sandals, but I can't seem to find the right thing.  Now how am I gonna be the hostess with the mostess without a great outfit?

On another issue, I don't want to be called the matron of honor, because who wants to be a "matron".  I'm afraid if I call myself maid of honor, people will be confused that I'm married.  So I was thinking best woman, lady of honor (wow, I hope I don't have to prove that!

Good Luck. Sounds like you've planned a great party!

Sounds like fun and I think what you are thinking about wearing is perfect.  A little glitz and basic black.  The most important part to remember is to have fun.  LindyNice top and pilazzo (sp) pants and appropriate jewelry.  And dressy sandals?  I would look nice in that, can I go?  I will bring a nice gift...promise!   One thing I did when throwing a wedding shower was go and buy the thank you notes for the bride and hand out the envelopes to the guests to write their name and address on. That way the bride has the envelopes all ready to go to write her thank you notes on and doesn't have to search for everyone's address. You can also use that as a door prize game and pull one enevelope out whoever's name is on it gets a prize.

Sounds like a lovely shower Suzanne!  And I like the term "Lady of Honor" too.  Matron always bugged me too - sounds like someone who cleans the restroom!

Wow, N & T, palazzo pants - that's a blast from the past!  Are those in again?  I'm so out of touch!

Hill, I did not think that pilazzo pants ever left as I have seen them in the fashion mags and even on Oprah since their popularity began. Saw them on women walking the red carpet in Hollywood just recently.

Well I have some black slinky-knit pants that look almost like palazzo pants on me!  I'm a very short plus-sized woman, with some major thunder-thighs, but for some reason, even with swelling, my ankles are small and my calves are well toned.  So everything looks sorta bell-bottomish on me!

I have seen the thank-you note idea at some showers, but I know lots of people in this area feel like they shouldn't have to address their own thank you's, and I don't want to risk offending anyone.  What I've done instead is to print a sheet with all the guests names and addresses in a chart, with a column to write what gift they gave.  I'm going to ask one of the bridesmaids to record it since my hand won't last very long (I'm much better at typing than handwriting).  At least this way, the girl writing it down will be able to find the names easily (don't you hate it when you can't really hear who gave the gift?) and then my sis will have all the addresses handy.  I was even going to put in what hubby and I are giving, but I didn't want to risk my sister seeing it before she opens the gift!

Sounds like you have it covered!  It should be a great time!
