Quitting smoking is killing my right side | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone!  I quit smoking 8 days ago after smoking for 3 years.  I am doing great with the no smoking part and I am very happy about my decision! but something strange has happened.  An intense pain in the top right side of my chest began the day after my last smoke.  The pain got worse day after day until virtually my whole right side: arm, neck, head, elbow, wrist are in excruciating pain.  I have swelling around my clavicle/sternum joint as well.  Has anybody else experienced physical post-quitting side-effects like this? i quit smoking 7 months ago after 40 years of smoking,an i have no problems.i still smoke one once in while,i wish i could completely stop.when i am arond some one who smokes i wont one.i dont let any one smoke in my house.

I've not had that happen.  I quit smoking about 6-7 years ago after smoking for years.

Maybe it's just a coincidence?  Maybe tell your doctor about it though.

Congrats on quiting!! I'm so happy you've stopped smoking.  I know it's not easy, even with the aids available now.  I'd also like to encourage you to call the doctor about your symptoms.  Thank you everyone!  I saw my doc today.  He wants a blood test and an xray.  He said that it might be a flare or that it might have something to do with the bicycle crash I was in a few months ago when I injured my shoulder.  I know that quitting smoking changes your metabolism... I know that I will be better off in the long run.  The blood test and xray results should be in later today.   Big well done for quitting the weed. Here's hoping that your tests come back OK.Congratulations on quitting smoking! let us know what the test results show. I hope you are feeling better. Love, Juliah

That is wonderful that you have quit smoking!  Congratulations!  I hope that your pain passes.  I'm glad you sent to the doctor.  Let us know how you are doing.  I hope you have a restful weekend!

Hugs,

Jen

Hi, please let us all know the results of the blood tests. Congrats on not smoking. I wish my son could stop CHEWING! Ugh., they (he and his friends) started this in our garage when he was 16,  but at least he wasn't smoking cigs. Welllll, he's almost 50 and can't get off the chew. These tobaco addictions are awful. LyndaThe xrays were inconclusive as well as the blood test.  Everything seems normal.  I will be getting an MRI on Monday to research this problem further.  Thank you very much for the support.

I'm hoping your MRI goes well on Monday and you get some answers for your pain.  Hopefully it will ease very soon.  Please let us know how it goes.

Hugs,

Jen
