First Time Injectable MTX at clinic | Arthritis Information

Hi and many thanks to Ellie and Owiedeb who responded to my questions about the switch from MTX tabs. to injections (sub-q). Your comments really helped.  Sorry I don't seem to be able to find that thread to reply there.

I have had my first MTX sub-q at the hospital clinic on Wednesday afternoon and apart from a little bit of sensation in my upper arm for about ten minutes all went well.  I just had to sit and wait half an hour with a drink until they were assured I didn't have any immediate reaction to the i/j.  I noticed the next day or two, however, that the painful "rumble-tums" were gone and I didn't have any queasiness so l hope that is going to be the case from now on. That was so much improved.

I hope that - as Ellie commented - my hair will improve now I am on the injections.  At the moment I am shedding some hairs -  they're noticeable on my collar, pillow etc. - mostly from under the back of my hair but I think that's not helped by the fact I wriggle around on my pillow tryting to get comfy at night (don't we all?!) and probably that loosens hairs at the back which are not that strong anyhow due to MTX.

Anyhow, I am hoping they don't get worse and that as Ellie commented, the side effects improve now the change to injectable.

Best wishes to you all and thanks again

Joolie

Glad your first injection went well and I hope it continues to go well!

I'm so glad to hear your injection went well! Thanks for letting us know how you're doing! Love, Juliah

Thank you Shannon and Juliah

I didn't even know the nurse had done the injection at first!

I hope you both enjoy your Sunday and take care.  Everyone enjoy what's left of their weekend if they can. If in pain then lots of good wishes coming from me to and the hope for better days very soon.

Love Joolie

Glad to hear your first injection went well with no adverse reactions! I think you'll find the injectable methotrexate MUCH easier on the stomach. I sure did! Be sure and keep us updated on how you're doing!

Hi Gale

Yes, the MTX injection did not give me any nausea or tummy pains.  Glad you find that too.  Still feel tired but that's the R.A. being active in general.  Getting used by now after many years with R.A. to being a "doormouse" (sleepy!)

Joolie

Glad it   went  ok

I  start  MTX    on the   15th  Oct

Good for you! I'm glad your first injection went well. I do mine into my thigh and it seems to work well. I wish you continued success!

Hi

Second MTX injection yesterday. They let me go straight home as I'd not any side effects the first time.  Just a tingle in my uper arm again until the liquid had dispersed in my arm.  Weekly at the clinic and will be Seeing the Rheumatology nurse in mid October to hopefully learn to inject myself, if my blood reults showing the MTX working well.

Owiedeb thanks for your kind words (everyone too!).  Hope you're well.

Gilly - sent you a reply PM.

Joolie

I'm glad it's going so well for you.  If my friend's experience is any indication, you'll no longer have any stomach problems.  She's been injecting herself in her thigh for many years and it works well for her.

Good for you, Joolie.

I do my own injections in my thigh, and have little or no side effects now.  Just a little tiredness the next day.

Hope things start to improve for you now.

Ellie

Ellie - thanks for your post - good to know you don't have any side effects from injectable MTX.  We can do without any of that!

Jesse - hi hope you doing well.  thanks for telling me about your friend and her lack of side effects.  That's just what I want to hear!

Love Joolie
