Methotrexate Caution Stickers Question | Arthritis Information

Okay, so one of the four caution stickers on my MTX bottle says "Prolonged or excessive exposure to direct and or artificial sunlight SHOULD BE AVOIDED while taking this medication.

Okay, is artificial sunlight tanning beds?  Or electrical lighting?  I feel stupid here on this one.  If it means lightbulbs, then I might as well tunnel into a hole and live in darkness.  Thanks in advance for an enlightenment.

I think it means tanning beds.

tanning beds and other UV lights.  So don't sit under your plant grow lights either!

I thought it also meant sunlight.  I haven't noticed any worse burning from the sun, but I believe others here have.  I just notice my eyes are more light sensitive.   Tanning beds are hazardous to your health anyway, so MTX is just one more good reason to stay away from them.  BTW, that wasn't a stupid question.  Sometimes the warnings tell us just enough to make us worry and don't give us all the info we need.I go tanning and on MTX, my RD knows as it help my psoriasis.

Wow, great responses.   And we are just thinking about setting up a black light retro game room :)  I know there is no stupid questions, but that sticker language all of a sudden hit me, like you said Jesse, to get our attention and start you worrying.  Thanks Cathy PS Buckeye, but I am shrinking from my osteo, I was thinking about GROW LIGHTS LOL

I go to tanning beds a little and I get lots of sun and have been just fine. I think you'll just have to see how you react. I know sulfersalizine says something simular too and I had a horrible reaction in the sun once on that. MTX; not ever.

Prolonged sun exposure isn't good for any of us and their finding more and more people on biologics with skin cancers as well. Just use common sense and use sunscreens regardless. Always keep an eye on spots that look strange or change. There's always a chance anyone could have problems from the sun.

I go in the sun because I have seborrhea. (sp?) I have not had any problem at all.  We do need vitamin D along with out calcium.  I live in a 4 season climate, so the sun is not strong for 3 out of the 4 seasons.
I love the sun, it warms up the bones & muscles and makes me feel a lot better, but I only do 10-15 at a time.
Hi good questions. I got a really bad sunburn on the tops of my feet this summer while
