MTX and fatigue | Arthritis Information

Does methotrexate build up in your system?  I started 7.5 mg a couple of months ago.  For the first month I didn’t have any side effects.  Now, the day after I take it, I am ZONKED!  I’m so tired, I can hardly do anything.  I wouldn’t mind so much if it helped significantly with the pain.

I noticed a lot of people switching to the injectable because of the side effects of the pills.  Is the fatigue a side effect that I could get rid of if I switch to the injectable?

Yes it does build up in our systems and I changed to the injectable.  Rather than being in bed all day after the shot I only need a nap but am a little off kilter due to the Enbrel.

I hope this helps and take care.

Thanks Bonny.  I think I'll talk to my RD about the injectable.  He mentioned going straight to Enbrel if I had problems with the MTX but my insurance won't pay for Enbrel unless my condition is moderately severe, which I'm not. My MD prescribed waltussin po over the counter. 20 mg the day I take mtx and bid the next day. This sure took care of fatigue. I take 15mg mtx weekly po. JoanneOh yeah, some fatigue and big-time brain fog.  My RD started me on Leucovorin instead of folic acid and I also split up the dose, which helps a lot.  I am on 25mgs of MTX and fatigue was a huge factor.  My weekends were ruined.  My doc split my dose and now I take half on Tuesday and half on friday evening.  It works much better that way and now I actually have a weekend.  Good luck!
