what about hot tubs | Arthritis Information

Do any of you use a hot tub? My husband suggested getting one, but then
I thought I read somewhere that the heat isn't so great for inflammation
and I never heard of anyone with RA using this for relief. In theory it
sounds great.
Any thoughts?

Thanks so much
SusanI don't have a hot tub but I have a jacuzzi bath.  I used it once thinking it might help the pain, and I guess it did while I was in it.  It felt good to be able to just relax my shoulders and let my arms float.  My shoulders were pretty messed up wit RA at the time.  But once I got out the relief ended.  Wouldn't do it again, but I can't stand to sit in a bathtub.  I get bored too quickly.Yes! Hot tubs...I have used them on trips, and LOVE them.  It is about the only time I can sleep w/o taking a pain pill.  I mean I sleep hard!!! You can dial down the temp...and friends of ours that have one at their cabin did last year.  No money in my budget for a hot tub, but worth the investment.  Travel and sit in one if your curious.  I have a jet tub which works well when I'm really stiff and sore. I would love
to get a hot tub for those real cold winter nights here in Montana. I think
they are beneficial to people with RA.I love hot tubs too, but I know I couldn't stand being out in the cold to get in it.  I do have a soaking tub and use that quite often.  I don't get bored though! I have a rack that goes across the tub.  It has a book holder, candle holder and a wine glass holder.  I don't drink wine, but I can use a wine glass to hold something else.  Some bubble and music, heaven

I have a hot tub and love it! In the summer I keep the temp at 99 degrees (almost body temp) and in the winter, especially when it is snowing, I keep it at 101 degrees. You would think I would freeze getting out, but my body is so hot and steamy cold air feels fine.

My dr wrote a perscription saying I needed to use it three times a day, so we were able to deduct it, the electrical work we needed, and all the supplies for the year on our taxes as a medical expense. We still get to deduct supplies...

I have always liked hot tubs, am all for them. I think they help relax you and on those really bad bone days it can be the difference between being in tremedous pain or being relaxed and able to function. I also like the big jet tubs. I think I I just like to be in water with bubbles!
