Routine Eye Exams/Pred. Use | Arthritis Information

I had my eyes examined by a opthamologist last week and I've developed cataracts due to long term Prednisone use.

My eyes have really changed in the last year.  Colors have become dimmer and I seem to need every light on in a room to see well.  I attributed the changes to Remicade but this is one side effect I can't blame on Remicade.

They're in the early stages and are easy and quick to remove once they mature, but it's just one more health related item that has to be monitored and eventually taken care of.  There are so many other serious ways that long term Pred. use can affect us that I consider myself lucky that it's just cataracts.  It could be so much worse.

This isn't a vent about having cataracts but a wake up call to all of you who are on Pred. or have been on Pred. to be sure to have yearly routine eyes exams by a opthamologist.  Lindy

HELLO, everyone.  I've been "GONE" a while because of a family crisis.  But I'm back now.  I'm not doing well at all with my hand.  It's almost nonfunctioning--OUCH!  The tendons are shot, too.  I'm going back to the rheumy as the Prednisone and Celebrex did not help at all.  I'm sure my doc will start me on some other type of meds, and I'm wondering which drugs are harmful to the eyes (retinas)?  I can't afford to take anything that'll hurt my eyes as I've got bad retinas already from being born prematurely.  Anyhow, hope y'all can help me out here.  Thanks in advance.  I'm gettin' scared now....
