I am just back from my rheumatologists appointment. I do not have lymes disease, its definetly RA. I had a steroid injection in my bum as I am in a lot of discomfort and I am now going to try enbrel. I have to get the relevent forms sorted. I also have pleurisy which is making me feel so ill and an abcess on my tooth so I am having an antibiotic for 7 days and then a root canal..........ouch!!
My new rheumy is excellent. He was on tv last night.He has a patient who was on the enbrel trials for 5 years, enbrel made her life 100% better, all of a sudden her primary health care trust wont finance the drug in her area so she has had to stop it and she is in so much pain again, she is also suicidel.....He is rooting for her and getting behind her cause.
This is so sad, as if it wasnt for people like this lady who tries these drugs for us we wouldnt have any hope.

Pin, Enbrel worked literally overnight for me. Hope it does the same for you. It seems like the Enbrel folks should pony up and let this women have her meds, without people like her willing to be a guinea pig, there wouldn't be Enbrel.Well. Poop that ya didn't have Lymes........haha bet you never expected to hear THAT in your lifetime, eh???

Sounds like you're going for the full set of ailments there doll. Getting shot of that abbyss will be a good start - been there, felt like I'd got flu coming on. Hope you feel better soon.
That lady having her enbrel pulled is so stinky! So she risked her own health for a 5 year trial only to be dropped back where she started?

I'm glad you're getting answers, just wish they were better ones! I am on enbrel so if you need some virtual help with your injections just ask! It's not working so well for me but I'm seeing the Dr next week so we'll see what they say. What hosp do you go to? What's the name of your Rheumatologist? I'm guessing the patient on TV doesn't qualify for NICE's guidelines? Or is it the PCT being awkward? Good luck with the enbrel!

Get that tooth cleaned up as soon as you can. Root canals are not so terrible any more. I was surprised (pleasantly) at how easy the last one I had was.
Your RA can be triggered into a big flare by your body's fight with the infected tooth.
I kind of think my chronic RA was triggered by a tooth abcess.
Humm... no lymes disease huh? Well that is just a let down. I was really hoping it was, so you could feel better faster.

Did the doc do the Igenex Lymes test?
And please do a little research on root canals and RA. I will never have another root canal because an absessed tooth is the straw that broke the camels back in my case. Have you thought about a biologic dentist? It's very controversial but I did have a lot of faith in my Huggins method dentist. Be careful - there are quacks even in the 'holistic' circle.

Marian- many thanks for the info on tooth abcess and a RA flare. I have been feeling grotty since the abcess started and by tonight I am having trouble connecting my feet to the floor
PIP- Not sure what the lymes test was calle but he siad it was quite an indepth one and it took 3 weeks to get all the results back.
I will have to look up biologic dentists as I have never heard of one in the UK, Although I am sure there will be one.
My new Doc isnt ruling out AP treatment either which was good.
