Is there an asthma connection? | Arthritis Information

I know we have talked about this before but there have been a lot of new members that have joined in our shananagans (sp?LOL) so I thought I would start it up again.

How many of you have had asthma as a child to find out as an adult, or later on in childhood that you had RA/JRA?

I was diagnosed w/ asthma in the begining of 6th grade, my parents had gotten divorced about 6 months prior.  Is there a connection w/ stress and asthma? And asthma and RA/JRA?  I know there are many different reasons how asthma is triggered but it got me wondering if the stress triggered it for me since I also was diagnosed w/ RA about 6 months after I had Kelsay.

Any imput?

I was diagnosed with adult onset of asthma about the same time as RA/PA symptoms appeared.  Symptoms of RA/PA appeared about  about 7 years before I was officially diagnosed with RA.  Lots of health incidents in those 7 years, adult onset asthma, flu that turned into pneumonia, strep throat, blown disk L5/S1, pneumonia a second time, and hypertension that developed from a severe reaction to Vioxx. Who knows if there is any connection but I'm suspicous because prior to all of this I was perfectly healthy.  Lindy    Yea it does make you wonder doesnt it?  All through school I would always get horrible sinus infections every time the seasons changed, like clockwork so I was always on antibiotics...Is there a connection there as well?Because of an overwhelming amount of anectdotal stories, I believe that
there is. My dear BF developed adult onset asthma the same time I got full
blown RA.

The mycoplasma that have been implicated in RA are the same ones
implicated in asthma. On remedyfind.com many people using minocin to
control their RA report the pleasant unexpected side effect of having their
asthma "go away".

Coincidence?Ya know that reminds me.  Ever since I have been on RA meds I havent had any asthma symptoms but maybe a few times when I got a really bad sinus infection, and even then i used the albuterol once or twice and I was fine thereafter. I never had asthma, but I've always had a huge problem with allergies. Allergies are another manifestation of an overactive immune system.

I've had to use albuterol a couple of times in the past few years.  I still don't have asthma, but sometimes if I catch a cold I get a wheeze/cough that lingers for a couple of weeks.  I attribute that to my use of a beta-blocker (it blunts your natural epinephrine, which leads to wheezing) and my history of smoking (never a heavy smoker, but I've smoked off and on throughout the years)

no asthma now or as a child.  I've had RA for over 20 years

I developed asthma about the same time I went into teenage remission and all symptoms went away around the same time I was coming outta remission and have not had any troubles breathing since. Just outta control J/RA.

Before  i  had  RA    i was   diaganosed  with  a   under active  thyroid  i always  think   that   in some  way    my  RA  is  connected  to it   but i  suppose  i  will never  really  know

Ive had asthma and allergies basically since birth. been using inhalers since i was old enough and before that had liquid meds and the occasional nebulizer. dx with JRA at 8
