Hi-

Can RA affect ribs?

hi tara,   it sure can . i have read many posts where people have had it in their ribs. I have PA and i get it in the ribs also. Its an awful  pain. I have a cream called ice cold that i find helps mine. but it usually hangs around for about a week before it goes away. Costochondritis is an inflammation of the joints between the ribs/sternum.  It's a self-limiting affliction.  You can also get arthritis in those joints, according to my rheumatologist.  That must really suck.  I had costochondritis once; it was bad.  I can't imagine that as a chronic condition!

Completely off the subject... when I saw the title "Ribs" it made me hungry for ribs.  Mmmm Mmmm Good! Yes, Ra affects the ribs with inflammation of the rib joints.  Like Ally cat I have PA that causes painful ribs.  I presented once to the ER because of chest pain and shortness of breath.  I was admitted and kept for 3 days and it turned out I had costochronditis.  It can be mild to very painful.  Take care. Now to try to sleep!

p.s. and I've never heard of costochronditis.  :-)
