Arthritis In Finger Joints | Arthritis Information

Hey, my Mom has recently started feeling "something" in her finger joints, and one of her hands the joints hurt when she closes her hand.  Does anyone know how fast this progresses??  I don't need any suggestions for treatments - I have one for her if I can get her to use it properly, I just want to know how fast this progresses.

It's different for everyone DaveH. I've had it for eight months and now that
I'm not in a flare my fingers are fine. Swollen and slightly stiff when I make a
fist, but no pain and no real limit of movement. Not even enough really to be
annoying. When I'm in a flare though it's a completely different story. I can't
hold things, I try to avoid writing because it hurts and I have constant pain
in them. Making a fist is out of the question! Just make sure your treatment
doesn't harm your mum's fingers further.

Sorry Dave, but different speed for different people.

Thanks, she's not in a lot of pain yet, I was just wondering if it was a slow or fast progression.  I guess that all depends on the individual case.DAVEH; HAS YOUR MOM SEEN A RHEUMY AND BEEN DIAGNOSED?  BLOOD WORK AND MRI'S OF HER HANDS COULD HELP WITH DIAGNOSIS.  RA CAN PROGRESS RAPIDLY AND DESTROY JTS AND BONES WITHOUT TREATMENT AND CANNOT BE REVERSED.  I WOULD MAKE HER AN APPT ASAP.  GOOD LUCK TO YOU!  DAve;  I went to your homepage and it is an advertisement for a pain relief creme.  I hope you are encouraging your mother to see a dr for the joint pain in her hands and just not trying to doctor her yourself.  RA is a progressive disease, granted the pain relief creme will help relieve some pain it will not stop the progression of ra.  There are meds out there that can slow the progression of ra, so please make sure she goes to a dr and find out how bad the arthritis is.  meme

Good for you Meme.  That would be pretty scary to have my caregiver treating me with pain relief creme !!!!!  Listen to Meme Dave.  RA is not something you can ignore!

Don't worry, she's young enough and independant enough to take care of her own health, I'm sure she'll go to the doctor as needed.  I'm also going to talk to the product formulator to see what he has to say about it.

Hi Dave,

Does your mom have RA?  or are her fingers hurting and your not sure why?  Just curious, I could'nt tell from the posts if she has a positive dx or not.

Good luck,

Pam

Nope, no diagnosis, wasn't sure which section to post in.

Dave; I would like to suggest that your mother gets in sooner than later.  If her hands are bothering her and they are swelling etc., it would be best to get in and get a diagnose as soon as possible.  This way it may help to stop the progression of it.  I hope she is feeling better soon.  meme

She is pretty sure it is Osteoarthritis.  So far, when she wakes up in the morning, she has stiffness and a little bit sore.  The joints in one hand hurts when she closes her fist.If she is having pain for 20 minutes or more in the morning she needs to get checked.  meme

Pain in my hands was a very early sympton of RA. Especially while sleeping and just as I woke up. Like Meme says early morning stiffness might indeed me a sign of RA; but if your Mother has OA your creams may very well be a good treatments.

My Granndmother had horrible OA in her hands. She was a quilter and her hands were disformed and drippled due to OA as long as I can remember. Other than NSIADS they never precribed anything else.

DAVE...DON'T DELAY IN TAKING HER TO A RHEUMATOLOGIST FOR NECESSARY TEST AND DIAGNOSIS.  RA CAN PROGRESS VERY RAPIDLY AND  DESTRUCTION IS PERMANENT.  ALL MY GREAT AUNTS AND GRANDMOTHER HAD RA,  OA AND OSTEOARTHRITIS.  THEY HAD SEVERE PAIN EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIVES, TOTALLY CRIPPLED, BONE DESTRUCTION IN HANDS, FEET, KNEES, SPINE, ETC.   DON'T DELAY.  IN THEIR DAY ALL WAS GIVEN WAS ASPIRIN THEAPY  AND PAIN CREAM WHICH DOES NOTHING TO SLOW OR STOP THE PROGRESSION.   THERE IS SO MUCH AVAILABLE TO HER NOW TO HELP HER.   PLEASE GET HER TO THE APPROPRIATE DOCTOR ASAP!!

I have a question. Not to be rude or seem "paranoid". But are we sure he is not using this thread to advertise his site and we just keep bumping his post to the top of the forum. Dave I am sorry that your mother has OA.

He has posted adverts before.

I apologize.  Maybe the admins/moderators should start a stickied thread with the rules.  In the one hour I spent visiting forums, I checked for any rule against advertising before posting.  This forum and only one other one in that time are the only ones where I could not find the rules.  The only rules I saw were when I registered, and they were the basic no threatening/abuse/etc.

Sorry for the bother.

I couldn't remember if that previous post was here or not - I think the thread was deleted because my post count was back to 1.  My Mom really is in pain - thats how distributors in my business build their business, by sharing with family and friends first (I've found trying things like my previous post doesn't work, anyways.  It was an experiment).  I got involved with it after my stepmom succesfully used it for her one bad knee and rosacea.  My Mom just recently started to get the pain in her fingers - and I thought I would come here for info.  To be honest, I would not want people to just find their way to my website and order the product, because without coaching on how to use it properly, there is a good chance they would not be repeat customers.  That is the exact reason the founders of the company took the product off store shelves - there was no one on one coaching of the customers.

I got excited after the product helped my stepmom with her knee.  She would have to slowly go up stairs one stair at a time.  After a couple of months of using the cream, she was able to walk up stairs normally.  My Mom has 2 bad knees, that have been bad since high school.  She won't use the cream for her knees until September when she is back into her normal routine (she works in a high school).  She is now starting to use it for her fingers.  It will help with the pain and inflammation, but I will tell her to go to her doctor to ensure she doesn't need any further treatment.

This thread was started because of my Moms pain, not to advertise.  To prove it, I will remove my site from my profile and my signature.  I will also update the thread on how she is doing.

Sorry Dave! I was just mearly pointing out that you had posted adverts before. I really do care that your mother has finger pain and I do hope you help her to get the proper treatment!

Well, keep us posted on how she is doing and what the docs say!

well my RA symtoms started in my hands, stiff thumb at first then when it went into full gear I couldnt even close my hand. And my hands have the most joint damage. So yah, if she suspects its RA its best to see an RD asap!  i definitely think a proper diagnosis is in order. my ra started with two things...leg pain bad enough to wake me screaming at night and hand problems...trigger finger, being unable to open and close them fully, stiffness.
not treating RA aggressively can lead to damage that cannot be fixed without joint replacements. i know this because i've lived it.  they did not know when i was first dx'ed that it needed treated as aggressively as it does even in children.  so i'm having pain that could have been prevented.  i'm in a position where my joints have damage but are not bad enough yet to warrant replacement.
