As promised, here are some pics of my "new" hand 2 weeks post-op.

Before:

2 Weeks post-op:

And this lovely contraption will be holding my fingers in place and re-training the muscles not sway to one side.  I'll be in this for 4-6 weeks.

All in all, it doesn't hurt too bad and there's not much swelling left.  Straightening my fingers will require another surgery and will be 6 mos. down the road.  Folks, it's been a long time since I've seen my hands so straight and my fingers in the right place.  Thanks everyone for your support during all this!

Wow, binge, what a difference! You won't know yourself when the whole process is complete. Glad your not in too much pain and things are healing well. I can see there is hardly any swelling. Love the contraption, aren't you special!

Wow! Binge! I can see why your Dr. was soo please and happy with how the operation turned out. That is a dramatic difference. I bet you really are happy to see your hand almost looking "normal" again.

Just when you get them both done and all the surgeries needed to fix them up, when you enter wal-mart it will no longer be Freak-Mart. And that is a good thing That's AMAZING! Congratulations on your new hand!

Well theres a wonderful sight.Your hands look great, I know you have a little way to go but you must be so pleased.

Congratulations

What a wonderful job - you must be so happy!  Seems you have some very gifted doctors.  I am really happy for you!

Best wishes for a complete recovery ASAP!

Oh they look GREAT!! I'm so happy for you. What a thrill it must be.

Both my thumbs have been operated on, but the first one failed after 6 months and the 2nd one needs another surgery to tighten up the tendon. (and the beat goes on...).

Your hands really do look terrific. I know the braces can be a pain, but they do help so much to get your hands retrained. Your surgeon did a fantastic job.

Hugs, Nini

They look great. Glad your not in too much pain. Wow!  What a huge difference, Binge!  I'm just amazed at what a nice job your doctor did! Looks like you're healing nicely!

OK, you need to pamper yourself!  I suggest a fushia manicure!  Actually, a day at the spa!

Congrats!

Pip

Your new hands are very inspiring.  Thank you so much for having the courage to post your pictures. Thanks for sharing the pictures and wow! how amazing is that!  I bet you just stare down at them and love it!  I would....I think you need a new ring too.Amazing transformation!  Congratulations to you and your doctor for a job SO well done.  And you can even type beautifully so soon after, that just blows me away.

they look beautiful...even with the contraption and the scar

They do look beautiful! Your doc should use them for advertising.

I hope when all the surgery and healing is done you will be able to do everything you need and want to do!

Very impressive! It's so good for us to see what can be done - thank you for sharing those pictures. I had a contraption like that for one of my hand surgeries.  My doctor was quite proud of himself for coming up with it! In another surgery he sewed a button to one of my fingernails and had a rubber band connecting it to... something (I forget what). He was really proud of that one, but I burst his bubble when I told him that it hurt worse than any other part of the surgery!

For you I wish good healing and the return of function!

Kathy

Oh my gosh!!Binge, I am thinking of all the pain you must have had in those hands and all of the courage that you had to have to go ahead with the surgery.  Thanks for sharing the pics. It gives us all courage and hope. Binge, your hand looks wonderful! It's just amazing to me what can be done these days. I hope you have a very fast recovery and that your hand heals completely and is as good as new. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures with us.

Binge I am so happy for you!Wow! That's AMAZING! You know, in the second set of pics, the palm side up one......it's just a hand! Nothing special! Which is GREAT! Once he gets those fingers straightened, holy cow are you gonna be living in a whole new world! Enjoy it, you deserve it!!! That's awesome!  Your hands look great!!!!  I'm very happy for you.  We're lucky that there are some very gifted doctors.

Wow! It is so great to hear some success stories.  Thanks for sharing.

HI Binge, I really feel for you, what you must have been thru, firstly to have hands like that and now to fix them, my heart goes out to you and my prayers that you do nothing but heal now and have no more pain, all the best from Janie.

Absolultey beautiful!!! Thank you so much for sharing your hands with us.

The splint was made by my hand therapist.  It was shaped and formed and pieced together right there in the doctors office.  Right now I see her 3 times a week mostly to make adjustments on the splint.  I also have a night time splint that is just flat and much easier to sleep in.  The contraption looks pretty wild but is really not painful at all.  I've gotten used to it and sometimes I forget that I have it on.   It ain't pretty but I'm not going to win any beauty contests myself anyway.

Once again, thanks everybody!

Much hugs to you Binge.Thank You Joonie!  I've gotten so used to "Freak-Mart" I don't think we'll bother with renaming it Wal-Mart.  That okay with you Joonie?   Absolutely amazing!  I am glad to hear you went through with it and they turned out so well!!!! good news bingethinker all the best to you, continued success for you and just think your mom was there beside that doctor, (saying prayers for you) as I believe they are with us most of the time in some way..

I always feel sad when it's Mother's Day and I don't buy cards anymore, but I talk to her instead cause I know she is with me always.

Have a happy life.............rose
I stared in amazement at your before and after pictures....you must be so happy with the results. I had my husband look at the pictures and he couldn't believe the difference.  You had an artist as a surgeon and you were very lucky.  LindyI know you must be so very happy with the results so far and it looks like your hands will just keep getting better each day. I think everone with RA that speaks up and inspires others in ways to help live with this illness are very brave you make a difference in the lives of others.
