Serious question. Since the beginning of last week my gums have been swollen.... like having gingivitis (I know you dont spell it that way!). Does being on medication make you more likely to get this type of thing. My gums feel like they are pulsing. On previous dental visits my dentist enthuses about my great oral health but there's definitely something going on at the mo?

Are you taking your folic acid??  Also, sometimes a salt water rinse will help, but you have to do it two or three times a day.  My gum troubles are caused by osteoporosis (the jawbone losing hold of the teeth and causing gaps) and being HSV-1 positive for mouth canker sores.  My gums are always inflammed or bleeding or have ulcers, always something going on.

Hi Sarah

Just seen this thread now as I had just posted a new topic about teeth and R.A/MTX.

I  mentioned in that post that I had  problems with my jaw (this was being able to open it wide it to eat certain things easily).  However, I have always noticed since getting R.A. that when my body retains fluid due to PMS (which really affects my R.A.) that it affects my gums quite a lot.  It feels like now when I have jsut had dental treatment .. a beating/pulsing round the gums.

Sarah, I'm getting ready to have deep root planing and the dentist and RD feel that it's RA/OA related and possibly med related.  My gums have receded, become inflammed, and feel sore and swollen.  I have really good dental hygiene but this started even with that.  I've never had a past dental problem.  This has just started in the last year.  Lindy

OHHHh My GOD, I'm going to loose my teeth and my mouth's going to cave in.... not a pretty picture forming.

My jaw has been aching on and off for weeks... and I wont even go into where I've just had an ulcer... had to get hubby to have a look see what was so sore (being as I dont have the neck of a giraffe) and couldnt reach that far!

Hubby thinks he should have been a gynae the amount of time he spends checking things for me.... and dont even get me onto the yeasty subject. One way to tell if you're yeasty, give it to the husband.... they get spots....and he still loves me!
