Changing MTX Schedule---How? | Arthritis Information

Right now I take my MTX on Friday but it messes me up for my volunteer work on that day.  I only take two before I go and the rest later in the day, but sometimes it makes me so groggy that I think I should switch to another day for the dosing. I think I want to start taking my MTX on Sunday or Monday instead. I'm retired so the work week is not an issue for me. Can I just skip Friday next week and go directly to the new day? Or should I take it on Sat. next week, then Sunday the following week?  Anyone out there who has changed their MTX schedule?  Is there anything I should know?

It really should not be too much of an issue if you do it either way since you are only dealing with a couple of days.  Though I sould only move it to Sunday this week and then Monday the next if that is the day you want to settle on

Hi Jesse..I've changed my schedual a couple of times with no problems.   I think either way you described would be fine.

Good to know.  Thanks to both of you.

Where's my fly swatter!!!

You shouldn't have any problems moving from Friday to Sunday or even Monday if you want. You might experience a few symptoms waiting for Sunday to arrive; but it won't be bad. You'll be happier switching to a day that works better for your schedule.

I change the day of my Mtx and Humira all the time (usually only a day or so difference) it depends on how my weekend is going to go..I usually take it on Thursday but a couple week we had an emergency trip to Ohio since my Grandma was in the hospital and taking my Humira and Mtx was the last thing I wanted to worry about.  So I took it the mornin we left (wednesday) and it worked out great...I slept the whole 6 hr car drive and all night

Probably as long as you don't wait a long time to switch it should be okay.

Hi, I've moved mine around so I don't take the Methotrexate on the same day as the remicade treatment. I moved it up a day a week until now I take it on Sundays, but I think I'll take it tomorrow night as it is getting in my way Monday mornings for other things. Lynda

for people with more senstive stomach the dose is often splint over 12 hours

I moved mine to Saturday afternoons after getting all this same great advice, once I realized it made me not do well the next day after taking my dosage.  I sleep most of the worst off this way, and have Sunday to recover.  Good luck, great question, good reminders for fog brainers :)

My Rheumy told me to move my dose only by one day at a time (even by 12 hour increments if possible) if/when I found it necessary to move it. I've done it this way once to get it moved to from saturdaya to thursday aand it worked out just fine for me.

Good luck,

Yes, I think I'll move it one day at a time.  My RD said it's fine to split up the dose over the day and though that helps, I still get bad days so moving MTX day to Sunday or Monday will help in case hubby and I get invited to a wild weekend party!  Don't want to be a foggy brained party-pooper!  Thanks everyone!!Kelstev, where did you get that fly?!  That is so cute and I would like to use it on my emails.  Thanks My Rhuemie has me take 4 on Tuesday and 4 on Friday night.  I take 1 arava MWF.  It was very difficult for me to take it all at once.  I work all week, was a vegetable on Saturday and was coming out of it on Sunday.

It works for me.

umm blush, after being off mtx, until my blood tests came in, i keep forgetting.. so.. I don't know , I really haven't noticed any kind of effects w/ the Mtx.. EXcept.. except when I was on Humira.. then i really had to space it..

So I think , imo, you can change days, to fit whats best, tho of course, you really do want to keep on schedule..

(and by the way, i'm terrible w/ sticking to a schedule, but i Know, i should) i have a calender, so it helps and i have to take a bunch of other meds everyday too.
