Has anyone had ankle fusion surgery? how long was your recovery? and are you glad you got it?Hi and welcome Rabbit.  I haven't had ankle fusion surgery but it's something that the future holds for me.  Just not bad enough but "bad enough" for me.  Wanted to welcome you to the forum.  Lindy

Welcome Rabbit! I've had both forefoot and ankle fusions on my right foot, the forefoot about 5 years ago, and the triple arthrodesis about a year after that.

The ankle fusion took the most time to heal, and required a lot of physical therapy after. I had a cast and was non-weight bearing for 6 weeks, then went into a walking boot. The hardest part was not being able to use cruthches, as it caused too much pain in my neck and shoulders. For the most part, I was confined to a wheelchair during the 6 week non-weight bearing process, with occasional use of a walker. The walker also caused a lot of pain in other parts of my body as I had to hop on the good foot when I used it.

I know there are other people here who have had it done, so don't be afraid to ask questions when and if you decide to do it!
