I have had some puffiness in between my knuckles, how do I tell the difference between swelling and inflamation? I thought inflamation was kind of solid? But God know's I've been wrong before

Not Diagnosed yet, go to Rheumy this Thursday FINALLY! No meds, my GP gave me 800 mg of Ibuprofin to take 3 times a day, but that was only for 10 days...it has been a month since blood work showed the elevated RF and Sed Rate. I was told that my Sternum is inflamed and that I have some inflamation in my shoulders, so I was wondering if it is inflamation in my hands or swelling & are both common with RA or just the inflamation? Whew...now I'm tired, LOLSTACI...BOTH ARE COMMON! GOOD LUCK TO YOU. LET ME / US KNOW HOW YOUR APPT GOES!Inflammation and swelling are the same thing aren't they?
