Anyone wear orthotics? | Arthritis Information

I have worn orthotics in my shoes since I was in the 5th grade.  However, I am have an awful time finding shoes to fit them.  I have ordered a couple of pair from healthfeet.com and they say they are extra deep to accommodate you personal orthotics yet they do not fit!!!!

I have worn the same little ankle boots for about 3 years and they are now discontinued and they are torn.  All I have are my ortho sandals and its getting colder here in Michigan and I need something to wear with dress pants for work.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I use Dansko's with my orthodics, and yes you need to put your sandles away!  Dansko's are sometimes formed in such a way that I can get away with not having my ortho's in there.

I wear orthotics on my non-surgicial foot and have them in some New Balance 925 shoes, which you obviously cannot wear for anything but casual.  It is really hard to find shoes to fit an extra inch of padding. My rehab doc said that I should get custom shoes.  She said that the first pair are expensive, but after that it is not too bad and they last forever.

If you look at shoes for diabetic neuropathy (which I have) you can find a number of ideas for shoes that work with orthotics. Nothing will be trendy, unfortuately.  Also, men's shoes are made with more depth. You might find some shoes that are mens' that don't look too masculine.

I found some websites with a variety of shoes for orthotics-http://shoesorthotics.com/http://www.footsoport.co m/products/womens_suburban_category.aspx

LOL!  Alot of the shoes they shoe for orthotic wear will ot have room for my orthotic, which I do not understand!  I found this page of shoes from them, they are pretty ugly but I need shoes.  Which pair is the least grandma looking?  No offense to the grandmas but at 37 I don't want me shoes to scream 80!  LOL!

Joe Joy, I am off to look at the sites you posted right now!
Keens come with insoles that
come out to accomodate your orthotics. I had my orthotics made before my
eyes at the arthritis centre and they gave me a list of places that sell shoes
that you can put orthotics into. Maybe ask for one of those where you get
your orthotics?Hi, I have them (paid 0), but don't wear them, they don't seem to help my hurting left foot. I wear soft 'DR Scholls' jelly inserts, and ugly 'dr. scholl's' type (nursing) shoes from walmark (freakmart), Lynda

here's an inexpensive suggestion. Try on a few pairs of men's shoes. You co uld probably find a pair of black athletic shoes that might work. Men's shoes typically are made wider and can accomodate the orthotic.

I wear orthotics and am lucky enough I can fit into little boys size 6 shoes. I wear a women's 7.5 If the insoles of the other shoes come out, you shouldnt have probs getting orthotics in.

Just a suggestion....

I wear them but they are the kind my doctor had made for me.

I know Michigan is getting colder, I was born and raised in Mich.  get some really cold winters there and I don't miss them at all.

I have prescription orthotics that I can only wear with my Dansko clogs. My feet get tingly and numb if I try and wear them in any other type of shoe. :(I was able to pick up some walking (sneakers) shoes that came in double width and they were great to insert my orthotics,,,,purchased them at Payless and they were really light and comfortable, not expensive
