Vicodin does help with the pain I've been having but my digestive system doesn't like it. Between the upset stomach and constipation I've been one uncomfortable person. Then on top of that I've been having a hard time walking. My right hip isn't happy about me moving around. My leg has been giving out if I stand for more than 20 mins.
I try to work through the pain w/o taking Vicodin and if I need pain med during the daytime, will take Ultram. It doesn't make me sick but doesn't take the pain away that much.

Hi marisa. Do you take it with food, or are you taking it on an empty stomach? They say you can take it with food or milk to prevent stomach upset.
I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I have also tried the Ultram but it doesn't help as much. I can't stand for more than 15-20 minutes either, so I know what you mean.
Are you on any other kinds of medications that might help with pain, like NSAID's?
Marisa, any narc. can cause tummy upset...a full meal or just a large snack does help. If you have problems with reflux, then you may have to get additional help with that(I did). The constipation...fruits and tons of water, and I take one of the chewable fiber tablets...they are actually good. You do need consistant pain relief, and like I said any of the narcs. will cause what you are experiencing.
Thanks. I do try and take it with food. I'm also taking Zantac, advil, and other meds too. Yes, the docs know all that I take.
I try to eat fresh fruit and vegs, whole grain bread, and drink my liquids.
This hip pain is bad and I'm learning the hard way, that I can't do to much before taking a break.
Today, it's a little better and I took my ultram too. I'm just waiting until Dec., to see what can be done about the hip.

Yup everyone is right it does help to take even something small to eat before you meds. I have learned the hard way.
< =text/>_popupControl(); For the constipation due to narcotics you might want to try and pick up some Miralax and a fiber supplement. Miralax is now over the counter. I am not sure on the price tho since I still get it prescription since the OTC does not last a full month. Hi! Marisa, I had the same problem with Vicodin. Eating before taking it didn't help me either. So now I only take Vicodin when I really have to, instead of 3 or 4 times a day. I have a bad left hip and lower back pain so I know what your going though. I am seeing a Pain Management Dr. for my pain meds...
