OK to Combine NSAIDS? | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone. I have not been officially dx'd with RA but my Rheumy said I definitely have some kind of inflammatory arthritis. He put me on 10mg pred which helped immensely, and also Voltaren and Plaquenil.  He told me to try to taper off the pred after a couple weeks, but didn't give me any kind of set schedule.  I took 10 mg./day initially for 17 days, then 7.5 mg. for 10 days and on Tuesday I started doing 5 mg, but since yesterday I am having a lot more pain.  Does anyone know if it's OK to combine Advil with Voltaren?  Or if it would even help? The Voltaren and Plaq alone provide some relief but not nearly as much as when I was doing more pred. Or maybe I'm trying to go off too soon and I should wait till the Plaq has had time to kick in?  This is so depressing to me, They all target the same enzymes; you will increase the risk of side effects (mainly ulcers, gastric perforation, kidney problems, hypertension) with little to no increase in effectiveness.  Much better to add tylenol, tramadol or an opiate as needed.

Yeah; Jas is right. I'd definately call your doctor before taking aleve with that Voltaren. You gotta be careful with some of these medications. Even OTC products like Aleve can eat a hole right through your stomach. Put in a call before you proceed.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
