Just googled it

http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/studies/stu92266.html

it says:

"A research study of a medication currently used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a medication in controlling the symptoms of PMR."

hmmmmmmmmmm........

that is  interesting because I took an RA drug for my painful hands and it took away my PMR.

Marianne,  I'm interested in your posting, since one of the most aggravating symptoms of whatever I have is stiff and sore hands, and trouble making a fist, i.e., grabbing something firmly like a jar lid or bottle cap, etc.  My rheumy has told me more than once he suspects RA with my hands and has put me on Plaquinil.  It seems to be helping but no miracle cure.

Thanks for the reference.  I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what they're up to.

Bob, you crack me up! Better be careful though, one of the rowers might
spash and put out your cigar!

Shirley, I have read that pred can cause red patches on the skin. I notice that if I have any pressure on the skin, like leaning my face on my hands or crossing a leg over another, a red patch appears and stays for absolutely ages, it's weird. Sometimes my skin looks very peculiar! Also, I notice more and more veins in all sorts of places I never saw them before (thinning skin?). Generally though, I find my skin colour is not particularly good, even tho I am not unwell and not anaemic or anything. I have got rid of a lot of clothes that I felt made my face colour look even more drab, like browns, yellow, red, and only wear colours that improve my skin tone, like pale blue and pink. It's either the pred or the PMR messing up my skin, I'm sure. Oh, and I forgot to mention the PIMPLES yeah, pimples! And that's another thing to worry about... why am I getting
acne in my 50's
pgryep when I was on pred....pimples ...EEK! They go away though when you are done with pred. (And you all are going to be done with the evil pred one day!)Bob if you have RA it will take a while for the docs to figure out the right meds for you. Plaquinel works for some others need a combination of plaq and Methotexate(MTX) My neighbor finally has her cocktail. She is on Humera and Mtx. .You should go to the RA forum and read some of their posts.
