Knees & heat | Arthritis Information

when I was in my teenage years I could take a bath and get out by myself. I noticed when I did take a bath, I could NOT feel the hot water on either of my knees. I would put my knees under the running hot water to see if I could feel the heat of the hot water on my knees and I could not feel it.

I thought about this last night while I had the heating pad on my swelled knee and to keep myself warm, because the "human furnace" aka hubby was not in bed with me as I left him asleep on the couch. Anyways... I could not feel the heat from the heating pad on either of my knees. Now... I could feel it a little above & below my knee, but on my knee nothing.

Does anyone else have this problem? Or heard of anyone else mention this? Or am I the freak again?

THANKS FOR THE QUESTION JOONIE NICE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Well, you try out the hot water, do not do it too hot, as you might be able to feel it and I would hate for you to give yourself burns. Let me know how it goes. Joonie, you are definitely not a freak! Many things...funny, caring, a little crazy in a good way, but never a freak. Here's another one that you and I both have Joonie. And it doesn't matter if your swollen or not, does it? You always have the same lack of sensation. I'm the same way, but I sure can't tell you why!

Darrel, nope cannot say that I have been on that med, or know anyone one that med. Maybe make a new post for it and someone will have an answer for ya

Cordy - nope... not numb, I can feel if someone hits my knee or I bump it accidentally. I just cannot feel hot water on them.

Katie - Yep does not matter if they are swelled or not, still not able to feel hot water. never tried cold water, but I am sure it is the same as hot water. cold water makes me well... COLD

I really wonder why we cannot feel it. But let my son hit me with a toy car in my knee and I feel like I am about to die from lack of oxygen from the pain. It truly is weird.

Yep, I have that same sensation on both of my knees.  I think part of it is damage and part is the surgeries on them.  There are definite parts that are completely numb, and parts that I have some small sensations.
