I have a Dx for my salad eating | Arthritis Information

I am just back from the hospital and seeing the doctors and having some tests, well I have sjogrens syndrome and possible vasculitis ( dr has said this before) waiting for some tests to come through. I have been prescribed some Lacri-lube for my eyes and Salinum for my mouth which is a saliva replacement.

Thanks all for your help with this problem and maybe I can stop eating salad now Lisa, I am so glad the mystery is solve.  Sad because it ended in at least one more diagnosis.  At least there is rhyme and reason to it.  Let us know how the meds work for this.

So there really was a reason for craving salad?  Wow.  Now I will wonder the next time I crave it.  Which is usually twice a week.  Or olives.  Well actually it's the olive juice.

Glad to hear you got it all sorted out.

Pin!!  Yay, for you!  No longer chained to that ol' devil, salad.

Serioulsy, what is the next step as far as your new dx?

I am waiting to get the results for the vasculitis, I have had bloods done for that today.I have to have xrays tomorrow. The sjoregens I am not sure whay else apart from the sprays and creams, i will also bring that up with the rheumy tomorrow.Lisa be sure to study Sjogren's as it unfortunately has some nasty other symptoms besides dryness to watch for.  I go tomorrow morning to find out for myself.  I am glad that you have an answer.  Popsickles and watermelon are great to wet the mouth also, lol.  What test did the Dr do?  You take care. Thanks Bonny, I am going to some research into the sjogrens. They did a paper test on my eye and put some drops in and then tested again(?) and a salivary gland spit test and i had a salivary gland biopsy from my lip, it wasnt painful but i will get the results on Monday, this is just to make sure the results are definate but the Dr said he is sure. Water melon sounds just wonderful right now

I have Sjogren's, too, but not Vasculitis, so far. I still am not too well educated about the Sjogren's. I had the lip biopsy several years ago and at that time it was inconclusive. My rheumy has recently told me that, from the symptoms I am having, she is certain that it is Sjogren's.The constantly dry mouth, dry eyes, and extremely dry skin are tell-tale signs. The blood test for Sjogren's I had recently, was negative and I reminded her of that. She told me that about 30% of Sjogren's cases test negative.

I noticed that Bonny suggested watermelon and had to laugh. I have been craving watemelon all summer. My husband, bless his heart, has made sure I have watermelon all the time. It's about out of season now, and I don't know what I'm going to do without my watermelon

Be sure to let us know how your tests come out. What were the signs of vasculitis, that made the doctor think you have it?

I hope the things the doc gave you help your dry mouth and eyes.

Be well, Sweetie

Nini

Lisa, I'm glad you're getting to the bottom of your salad craving.  Was it the water content of the lettuce that you needed?  Did your doctor do an ANCA test for the vasculitis?  If so, you may not have those results for a couple more weeks.  Please keep us posted.

Damn. I was hoping you were turning into a bunny rabbit. I was going to take you home and name you "Flopsy"

And then I was going to buy you a little ferret buddy.....mwuahahahahaha

You will *never* live that down, you realize that right?

Joonie - can you imagine the salad monster chasing shaggy and scooby

Nini-sorry to hear you have sjogrens too, it is so uncomfortable, I have problems talking first thing in the morning as my mouth is really dry then............hubby and kids think its fun as I cant shout at anyone

Jesse- I am not sure what the test was for vasculitis, I will know more on that tomorrow as i am having a batch of xrays done.

Ooooo she brings in the snot talk. Can we call it a truce???? Just don't talk about butter or I'll go through the roof.

Is it the look, taste or the feel of it you dont like.  I hate peanut butter, I cant stand the smell of the look of it..urgghhh

I don't like it in tubs. Anything more than the resturaunt size butters FREAKS ME OUT!!! If it's melted, it doesn't bother me. It's because when I was little I used to eat it out of the tub by the spoonfull *gags*

Okay no more

Just got back from Opthalmologist appt. and he dx'd chronic inflamation of the glands in my eyes which prohibits them from producing enough quality tears.  Sounds like Sjogren's to me but he likes descriptions instead of labels.  He is trying to treat the glands with drops/ointment for 3 weeks then I need to try plugs.

What is your treatment?  I guess all of this just goes together.  Another Dr., more meds, lol.

Take care

Hi Bonny. It does sound like sjogrens but my aunt has a tear duct problem and when she asked about sjogrens her doc said he didnt think so. I suppose there are many things that can cause this. My mouth is more of a problem than my eyes, I find it quite difficult to talk at times as the dryness makes my tounge so sore.

I am using Lacri-Lube. Its a very thick ointment and makes me have blurred vision for about 10 mins after using it.

Let me know how your treatment goes. One disease and so many problems .
