Well... I know most just think I am off my rocker. BUT...

I want to try to work. I know deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep down, I cannot, but I need to get pass this "denial" stage and just own up to that I am literally disabled this young. I am still in "denial" I guess you can say. Or it might be that I do not like it that "someone" is telling me I am not able to do something.

Anyways... so I am thinking of trying to find a job. We need some extra income right now, and I feel so useless, just sitting at home running up the electric bill, and not being able to give more.

So... this week... I am going to type up an ad to put in the Positions Wanted section of our local newspaper and see if anyone is willing to hire me. If so, I will try it out and see how it goes.

I am sure once I get on Remicade I will be able to do some kind of a job to help pay the bills and to stop depending on in-laws to help us make the bills.

There now... I am said it and I am going to try to do it. I am going to call this week to activate my ticket to work and go from there.

Joonie,

I think that is an *excellent* idea.  There are many things you can do!  In fact, you might find that you can do more than you originally thought.  Plus, I bet you feel better doing something a couple days a week!

Good Luck!

Phats

Good luck to you Joonie I hope you can find something you enjoy doing as well as something you can do.

Good luck Joonie I hope you can find something you can do to help out, if that's what you want. Just don't overdo.., and accept your limitations. Weigh all the pro's and con's, and if it's something you find you aren't able to do then don't beat yourself up. You are still much needed for your hubby and kids, and that's a pretty big job in its self!

Thanks you 2!

But if I can get son potty trained soon, he can go to pre-school and ride the bus to school with daughter and come home with daughter. Which is about 4pm, and by that time hubby is home from work.

I just need to get my ducks in a row.

Hubby will probably talk me outta going to work again. He did the other few times I thought about trying. He just said he did not want to have to hear me complain about what hurts.

Getting off your duff and trying to work is probably the most sensible thing I have ever seen you post!

Good luck and God bless!

< =text/>_popupControl(); You CAN make websites and that makes some pretty good cashola.  Take it easy and don't go 90 miles an hour into this work thing.  Mebbe try 20-25 hours per week and see how you can handle that.  I don't want you to set yourself up for failure by taking on too much right off the bat.  Would rather see you succeed at this.

Sounds like you have yourself a plan with getting your son potty trained.  Time to play sink the cheerios!!  LOL.  Not like I would know since my husband could not produce any of the much wanted boy type children lol.  But friends have said that is how they did it lol.

Good luck out there in the working world.  I bet you will really enjoy it and make some new friends in the process!!

Joonie, I don't know about the States but here in Australia they have a group that is associated with unemployment where you get sent if you have a disability.  They work with you to find a suitable job that fits in with your disability as far as how much you can do, what kind of work you can do etc.  They even sometimes pay for re-training if you can't do what you used to do.  Thats how I got my job...they sent me to do a medical receptionist course for 8 weeks of night school (one night at week) and even bought me 'interview clothes'.  They even paid for the paper and stamps for me to send out applications.   I love my job and it fits in with my life nicely, 3 afternoons a week.  I can sleep in in the morning, I can sit at work, there is a tiny bit of typing, writing and filing.    I can't do much around the house but at least I know I'm bringing in some of the bacon, which lowers the stress levels in other areas.

It might be worth seeing if there is any kind of agency that could help you find something suitable.

Good luck

What about typing for doctors, or something like that?  There are so many things out there....keep looking and I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

I agree though...take it slow.

Phats

I'm so excited for you Joonie!  I hope you can find something that you really enjoy.  It will be great for you to get out of the house and be on your own a little - where your identity isn't "Mommy" or "The Wife" and where you can make new friends, and learn new things.

I say GO GIRL GO!!!!

There are also companies (say walmart) that hire people to count inventory in January and February.   Joonie, Not much I can add to everyone else's post.  I'm just so happy to hear you say you want to get out and look for a job.  That's the first step.  Remember baby steps.  Look for something part time so as not to stress yourself physically.  If the first job doesn't work out they'll be others.  Don't give up.  Lindy

Joonie,

I just read your post about looking for a job.  I don't know if this is an option for you or not, but...I am working at a campus ministry at the local university.  I am the secretary, book keeper, gardener (okay I just water the plants

Hi Joonie,

I know I told you about this before but there is a company called West located on the Web at www.west.com who hires customer service reps to work from their homes taking calls for the various companies that they have contracts with.  You are considered an independent contractor which means that they don't take taxes out of your pay.  You are responisble for doing that.  But because of the independent contractor status, you can also set your own hours.  You can work as little as 3 hours a day from your computer and phone at home. If you want to do something like this from home, now would be an excellent time for it because most companies are hiring out to them for the upcoming holiday season.

As for your son and pre-school, here in MA we have headstart that is free if you're within the income guidelines.  I know that I'm going to enroll Isabel in this program next year because she needs time with some kids here own age.  And it will give me some time to do things I have a hard time doing with her here.

Just some thought for you, hun.  Good luck.

Hugs,

Steph

Joonie - I have found that starting as a volunteer doing something that interests you is a good way to start back into work after being down physically.  It kinda hardens you up and you get into the swing of getting up, taking your meds, making a lunch, seeing how you do, etc.  I would suggest a couple of days with your city's parks if you like outdoors or museums or hospitals or schools.  The list is endless because volunteers are needed everywhere.  And you then start to make contacts with people who are in a position to offer you the job you need because you are out there trying.  Just an idea and best of luck ~~

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have yet to talk to hubby about me going back to work yet, but it is going to have to be done like how I got Abi Kitty. I am going to have to do it and then talk about it

Anyways... I forgot today was a holiday, as daughter hod to go to school anyways. UGH! Plus I need to find where I put my "ticket to work". I am unsure of where I put it

I do not know what I want to do. I am just going to go with the flow. Whatever is available, but nothing I know I cannot do. Why waste their time and my joint time

I know I can do websites, and would love to do that. I have thought about calling a website company in town to see if they need someone to design websites. All their websites they build have the same template, just different colors and they charge these people 0+  for their website. I think that is a jip, at least make them a different template!

OH well.. I am going to check out this west.com.

I think I can do this job

CARLISLE
is now taking applications for the Soda Fountain. Must be 18 yrs. of age. Great for CACC students. Please apply in person. No phone calls please.

Wonder if they would hire me?

Oh wow, Joonie.  I hope you can find a job that is not too stressful for you mentally or physically.  Believe me, you'll be a different person if you can get out and interact with other people a couple of hours a day, not to mention helping out financially.  I always felt so much better about myself when I was working and can't wait to go back to work.  I know, we don't have to tell you to not overdo it!  Anyways, good luck with the telling hubby, and job-hunting.  I am so happy for ya!!

Thanks Binge! I am really thinking of going to apply for that above wanted ad. Just have to talk hubby into taking to apply in person when he gets home.

Oct '05 I went and applied for job(s) at a temp force, but they never got back to me. I even typed 35WPM!! I guess I did not type fast enough.

Did you apply at the temp agency Oct 5 or in 2005?  If it was just recently it may take them a bit longer to call you back.  In my experience with temp agencies, sometimes they're just gearing up for coming events and don't need people immediately.

Good luck with the job hunt.

It was Oct 2005. I put in my application a couple of weeks before I applied for disability. I was really bad off when I put in my application. 2005 was my worse year yet. It has gotten alot better since then. THANK GOD... I am not like I was in 2005, I probably would have killed myself if I had to go 2 years of being like that.

Joonie,

I think it was on ebay or one of the other sites that I sell things on, can't really remember.  But I bid on a website built for me.  After I won, I gave my vague ideas of what I wanted to the person, they showed me a sample, fine tuned it to my specifications, added photo's and bingo it was just what I wanted.

Good luck!
ps working in any type of food establishment can be physically challenging.  I hurt my back one time when I was bartending, because the boxes and ice were so heavy.

Yeah, I use to be a bus-girl/people greeter/drink gopher when I was a teenager. That job was so demanding, but I stuck with it and forgot all about my aches & pains while we were in rush hour, but after I got home it was nap and then do much of nothing.

Of course, I bar tended many years ago and we had to wear high heels and short skirts.  This was of course before RA and 6 kids

Mary did you dance on the bar like they do at Coyote Ugly's?I tried, but they paid me money to stop

LOL Mary they would me too

There's you a job Joonie, or maybe try Hooter'sWe have a "go-go" bar in town with waitresses who wear short skirts and white go-go boots.  There is a condition to be hired, they are all in their 50's and 60's.  Now that is a "hoot"

Hooters! Hubby would love that. *rolls eyes*

You know what I like? I like it when you see someone in Wal-Mart wearing a Hooters shirt, and they are flat chested women. Now that takes courage! *nods head*

A lot of people associate Hooters with big boobs.  Me included.  But my daughter said they went to a couple different hooters and not many of the waitress were very big chested.  I have never been to a Hooters.

you mean people dont go there only for their chicken wings?
