How is everyone?  I need some motivation!

WONDERFUL!  I am underweight, can I still post?  LOL  Phats, one day at a time - I was 170 at one point, then dropped to 102 before diagnosis, mostly due to my very powerful depression.  I think I lost alot of it with better eating and exercise.  Now my disease does it for me.  Prune juice is very good for losing weight. 

Good morning!  Wish I could give you (and me too!) a magic pill to motivate us and make this whole weight thing a lot easier.  Do we dare try the prune juice?  Sounds like an interesting approach. 

I was wondering about ya, Phats. Just never got my brain to remember what I was thinking until I saw ya online yesterday.

Well, I was going to start a salad diet, but bagged salads went up from .50 -to- .18. A little steep for me, since it would not even last the whole day.

Hubby is going on an all chicken diet. I keep messing with him telling him he is looking like a porker

I wonder if I can lose weight going on an all Egg salad sandwhich diet? Probably not because of the bread.

Oatmeal diet? I gots lotsa and lotsa oatmeal in the cabinet. Just need some maple syrup and brown sugar. OH WAIT... the syrup & sugar is what will cause me to gain more weight.

Phats you can do it! I know you can. Just do not be too hard on yourself and keep trying if you do not do as good as you think you should.

 

Joonie...when my son went off to college, he ate tons of oatmeal (he's not much of a cook) and during his first semester, he lost 20 lbs.  I was shocked when he came home for Christmas.

My friend lost a lot of weight through a program at her church called Weigh Down.  Has anyone tried it?  They met like a support group, like Weight Watchers, but there is no complicated point system, or no carb rule, etc.

People use this program to lose weight, or to gain weight if they have an eating disorder, and it is very simple.

Eat when your stomach growls.  That means you are really hungry.  If you are dying for cake (or whatever, something you know is 'bad'), don't deny yourself - just have half.

I'm guilty on both counts!!  I've done the second one, alot - Oprah even said she has eaten a whole box of Raisin Bran trying not to eat one piece of cake! 

Mmmmm....I love slow cooked oatmeal---so creamy good you don't even need sugar! Just maybe a few raisins.

Sorry...I don't have any weight loss tips. Just a love for good oatmeal.

Phats, I have made it through 4 weeks of 4Xweek at the gym  WOOHOO!!!!  And I started the week off right this morning.  I have lost (according to the scale at the gym) 15 pounds.  I am so excited.  My husband left for three weeks in Italy.  I don't get to go with him-

So my goal of being two sizes smaller than I am by Christmas just may be easier than I thought.

Gimpy, I eat quaker oatmeal that you put in the microwave but don't know how to make the real thing. Mine comes out lumpy. Do you have a recipe.

I had a cousin in law who went on an egg diet. She lost at least 30 pounds. All she ate was eggs. No Bread or anything. But just the thought of it makes me gag.
Suzanne, that is funny that you mentioned "weigh down".  I did that many years ago and it is the ONLY program that worked for me.  I loved it because it was scientific (she is a dietician) and spiritual. 

One of the suggestions was to set the timer for 20 minutes and take that long to finish a meal.  Wow, 20 minutes is a lot longer than it seems.  I was so annoyed at my husband.  I went through the program, but he lost 20 lbs just listening to me talk about it.  We both slowed down our eating, changed our plate size, always share meals when we eat out and listen to our bodies to see if they are hungry. The best part was that NO food was banned.  I lost the extra 60 lbs that I had packed on in my early 30's with the program.

My youngest is having weight issues and she asked for help.  I bought the book for her and actually am paying her for a book report on it.  I will let everyone knows how that goes.

Okay, my friend, an RN gave me the receipe for a "Brown Cow", which they use in nursing homes.  Alot of excess weight is actually trapped bowel water.  And we have slow moving colons because of our _________.  So, if you ever want to plan a day at home close to the toilet, you can try this:

8 oz. warm prune juice, add 2 tablespoons Milk of Magnesia.

It works.

Well, guys, I have been on that diet (not really a diet, more like a way of eating) called The Skinny B*tch diet. I posted about it a while ago. I've since lost 9lbs and I feel great. The major changes are that I gave up sugar, I sprinkle stevia on my cereal in the morning. I eat more fruit, just grab an apple, banana, even a couple strawberries when passing through the kitchen. I gave up diet soda - I drink seltzer w/lime instead. I don't eat overprocessed foods. The way I figure it's overprocessed is if the ingredient listing on the side of the package is more than one square inch! I gave up dairy. It's not too hard. You have to be open to it. I wasn't a huge milk/cheese person to begin with but I buy soymilk now, soy butter, soy ice cream w/sliced bananas is great. I have to tell you I am never hungry and I feel great. That's the important part! Also I've found ths product called Quorn, it's a meat substitute (don't gag!) and you'd never know it's not chicken. Good luck all. Honey

congratulations on your weight loss!  When I eat "clean" like that, I always feel so much better.  So,,,,why do you think I always go back to the junkfood?  That is the million dollar questions, I guess.

The key is not to deprive yourself. Ok, the other night, I wanted something sweet. My kids were having some crap (honestly I think it was caramel apples!) and I thought of my butt and I had a cup of green tea and a handful of raisins and left the room....FAST! Then I was so proud of myselfnot geting any motivation from me today. no energy here. Is RA going to make me fat or skinny? I start pednisone tomorrow. I know that makes you gain wieght. Oh i don't care, really about the wieght. i care about the energy. Have to do my c reactive blood test first. This official diagnosis officially changes my whole life, in and out of bed. Go get a blood test go get an exray. Go to the eye doctor. If you get any motivation share some with me. I don't have the energy for being sick.Hey! Carmel Apples are GOOD for you
