Anyone else have funky weird crazy dreams when they take pain meds?
I have been taking my darvocet last few days, and I am dreaming every night and having more than one dream at night. They are weird, funky, crazy dreams.
joonie, I don't think I've had them from pain meds, but from others meds such as Arava. I've heard them called "technicolor dreams" or "technicolor nightmares" and I hate them. It's like you can't stop thinking about them all day long. Totally untolerable side effect for me.
Joonie...darvocet is one of the worst for "technicolor nightmares" See if you can switch to some thing else. I am lucky I have huge reactions to darvocet...for me it is like taking speed (and it is the same for my son). I actually don't dream at all when I take the pain meds, it is only if they wear off during the night. I will dream at the end of the night, but not the beginning when I just take a pain pill.
Darvocet is not that great of a pain reliever, either. Many doctors have stopped prescribing it because it has a narrow therapeutic index and many studies have shown that it is no more effective than the equivalent dosage of acetaminophen contained in the tablets without the propoxyphene. You might want to ask for tylenol w/codeine, vicodin or tramadol instead. Oh and yes, I get whacked out dreams if I take an opiate right before bed. Usually they're great fun.I am not complaining about my dreams, it is just weird that I have dreamt more than one dream in one night. I like to dream good or bad. I do not think I have ever had a nightmare. Unless you count the masked guy with a knife chasing after me in a locked down hospital a "nightmare". I actually thought the dream was pretty cool
Anyways... darvacet is all she was RX me on my first visit. My other RD liked to RX me Lortabs and those make me loopy.
The darvacet seems to be doing to trick for my hip pain, but it does not last long. I am guessing they are to last 12 hours? As I am only to take it twice a day. But it does not last 12 hours. Maybe 8 at the most. Not like I would know... I am knocked out and dreaming and not wanting to wake up...
